Position Summary
ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical students, 15% Adult Basic Education student, and 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, Washington, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

Position Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities:
The Dean serves as the primary administrative and instructional leader for the College Access and Career Pathways Division. Key responsibilities include:
Academic and Faculty Leadership and Strategic Planning
  • Understands, implements, and ensures alignment with both faculty and staff collective bargaining agreements.
  • Collaborates closely with deans, division chairs, and faculty to ensure curriculum relevance, instructional excellence, and efficient scheduling that aligns with the college's strategic priorities.
  • Supports, mentors, and evaluates faculty through the tenure and post-tenure review processes, adjunct faculty review, and professional development processes.
  • Supports and works to build collaboration across the college by engaging faculty, staff, and community partners to ensure coordinated efforts that advance institutional mission, vision, and values.
  • Supports and advocates for faculty and staff in initiatives that are culturally relevant and anti-racist to help the college work toward its student success goals.
  • Collaborates with the faculty, directors, and deans from other areas of the college to create, maintain, and grow Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST) programs.
  • Represent the High School, College Prep, & ELL Area of Interest in the Guided Pathways structure.
Management:
  • Hires, supervises, and supports faculty, staff, and student workers to have a productive, professional, and safe working environment: managing workloads, schedules, evaluations, hiring, adjunct in-file process, and other duties.
  • Works with the division chair, program directors, and faculty on resolution of faculty, staff, and student complaints in a shared governance environment and in compliance with CBA provisions, etc.
  • Directly supervises department directors (Sr. Director of College and Career Pathways and Director of Workforce Education) and department coordinators (English Language Learning, Transitional Studies, High School Completion, & I-BEST).
  • Oversees division processes and manages office space and equipment.
  • Serves as the budget authority of division and departmental budgets, including related grants and allocations.
  • Works closely with the Business Office and Instructional Leadership to facilitate the development and management of departmental and divisional budgets.
  • In partnership with CTE deans, writes, facilitates, and manages a variety of state and federal grants (e.g., Perkins).
  • In collaboration with the department directors, oversee and review grant applications to implement new and ongoing programming; ensure grant compliance and state audits.
  • Develops, administers, and manages complex divisional and grant-funded budgets, including setting budget priorities and managing capital resource development.
  • In collaboration with program directors, pursue and acquire alternative funding sources to support CCP programs.
  • Plans and implements academic initiatives using labor market data, enrollment trends, and student outcome measures.

External Partnership Development:
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with the community, school districts, and local tribes to support educational pathways.
  • Works and partners with industry, businesses, and civic leaders on collaborative initiatives to further student success in CTE and collaborative management and implementation of the CLNA among CTE Deans.
  • Represents the college on state-wide councils, specifically the Council of Basic Skills and Workforce Education Council.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in education or related field
  • One year professional leadership experience
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, facilitation of collaborative decision-making and implementation, and conflict management
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to equity in working with others
  • Demonstrated experience in developing effective partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in grant management, budget development, planning, and implementation
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, detail oriented.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience with students, community members, and/or colleagues who come from diverse and intersectional backgrounds and identities, including under-represented and under-served communities.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Workforce Education programs.
  • Direct experience with Adult Basic Education Programs
