Must possess the ability to function independently and under pressure while participating in a team environment. Position requires excellent customer service skills at all times. Must be able to perform effectively in a stressful and fast-paced work environment. Must have the ability to prioritize appropriately. Must be detail-oriented and have the capacity to effectively multitask throughout the work shift. Must possess the ability to function independently, yet productively as a cooperative team member. Must be compliant and willing to follow all policies, established practices, protocols, and procedures. Competent in all aspects of Mammography, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection. Must have an understanding of anatomy and pathology as they affect the quality of a procedure. Description: The Mammography Tech must have flexible work hours to meet department needs. The technician must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Responsibilities include providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to department procedures. The position requires the knowledge and ability to obtain quality diagnostic studies. It involves performing a wide variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative while utilizing equipment for diagnosis and treatment. The technician must independently perform job functions, set up equipment, and position patients for procedures. Minimum FDA/MQSA requirements for continuing education, experience, and equipment must be maintained. Patient care responsibilities include obtaining complete clinical histories, gathering examination data, and assessing for contraindications. The technician ensures that all studies have proper patient identification and appropriate markers. Radiographic images must be reviewed for clinically acceptable results before patient release. Emergency situations must be appropriately responded to, with critical thinking skills utilized throughout. Clarification on ambiguous orders should be sought, and assistance to other technologists in all modalities is expected when needed. The technician observes patient conditions and evaluates situations where physician intervention is necessary. It is essential to verify two unique patient identifiers and ensure patient privacy and comfort. Competence in determining and applying appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age is necessary. Pre-procedure verification and Time-Out processes should be understood and documented when applicable. The technician should be able to explain the purpose of exams to patients clearly to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation. Patient questions, concerns, or contraindications must be addressed satisfactorily. Required documentation must be concise, legible, and precise in terminology. Active participation in departmental and hospital-wide education is expected without prompting. Quality control is essential, with a first-time acceptance rate of 95 percent for images produced. Equipment must be fully operational prior to its use, ensuring proper calibration and maintenance. All studies must be recorded accurately in RIS. All documentation must meet accreditation standards. Routine duties of clerical and support personnel may be performed as warranted to ensure continuity and quality of services. The technician keeps supervisors informed on all responsibilities and potential problems. Maintaining an individual productivity rate equal to that of coworkers is required. Knowledge of Mammography Tracking System and familiarity with regulatory agency standards is necessary. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
