Job Summary

This role involves providing essential respiratory therapy services to patients as prescribed by physicians, following departmental protocols. The successful candidate will work independently in various acute and critical care environments, collaborating with physicians and other healthcare team members to determine the best treatment strategies. We are seeking an experienced Registered Respiratory Therapist with the skills to care for patients across all age groups, from infants to seniors.

Accountabilities

  • Perform respiratory therapy procedures independently as per physician orders and departmental policies. - 20%
  • Obtain and analyze blood gases; report results accurately. - 10%
  • Manage patients requiring various types of mechanical ventilation. - 20%
  • Initiate and manage airway procedures and related equipment. - 10%
  • Document all respiratory care tasks accurately and educate patients and families as needed. - 10%
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, providing complete reports and suitable treatment recommendations. - 10%
  • Adhere to infection control procedures and clean/disinfect equipment between patients as necessary. - 10%
  • Utilize resources wisely, ensuring efficient time and supply management.

Supervisory/Management Responsibility

This is a non-management position reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications include graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program recognized by the American Medical Association or eligibility for licensure in South Carolina; new graduates are encouraged to apply.

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

Licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in South Carolina is mandatory or eligibility for licensure. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentials must be maintained. Note: Individuals employed before June 2016 may hold Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) status. New hires since June 2016 must complete the Therapist Multiple Choice Exam and Clinical Simulation Exam within specified timeframes post-graduation. Failure to pass the clinical simulation exam within the first six months of employment will lead to termination from Prisma Health. NRP and PALS certifications are required before independent work in the NICU and PICU.

Other Required Skills and Experience

Candidates must demonstrate effective teamwork capabilities and possess strong communication, computer, and organizational skills.
