PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Equipment Operator is an essential entry-level role within the Operations team, paving the way to become a licensed Reactor Operator and potentially a Senior Reactor Operator, which offers the highest levels of opportunity in the Nuclear industry. Selected candidates will undergo one year of initial non-licensed operator training. Upon successful completion, you will join an operations team on-shift. This position requires the ability to work mandatory rotating day and night shifts.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Monitor, control, and operate nuclear station equipment from the control room, including:
  1. Starting, stopping, and operating nuclear reactor and auxiliary systems.
  2. Managing steam turbine and generator equipment to maintain maximum station capability.
  3. Testing and adjusting pumps, valves, and other system components.
  4. Monitoring system indicators and responding to alarms according to plant procedures.
  5. Taking action during emergency conditions, including understanding abnormal operating events and emergency procedures.
  6. Participating in the fire brigade effectively, sometimes serving as a leader.
  7. Assisting in the coordination of station operations and correcting any deficiencies through the Corrective Action program.
  8. Initiating Emergency Plans as per procedures.
  9. Implementing tagging and out-of-service requests as needed.
  10. Assisting during refueling operations as required.
  11. Utilizing station communication equipment as necessary.

Selected candidates will enter a comprehensive one-year training program. This is an exciting entry-level opportunity ideal for those interested in advancing to Reactor Operator or Senior Reactor Operator positions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED and one of the following:
  1. 2 years of experience in a non-generating nuclear power facility, such as Navy Nuclear training or experience at a DOE facility.
  2. A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a related science program.
  3. 43 credit hours of post-secondary education with at least 75% focused on advanced math, physics, chemistry, or engineering technology.
  4. 1 year of Power Plant experience, including any work in fossil-fueled or nuclear-fueled electric power production plants.
