Job Description

Role: As a Senior Software Systems Engineer on the Behavioral Validation team in the Autonomous Vehicle organization, you will play a pivotal role in spearheading validation efforts for autonomous vehicle software. Your expertise in creating and executing complex Verification & Validation (V&V) strategies will be essential in rapidly prototyping solutions, fostering consensus, and advancing our programs with enhanced reliability and efficiency. You will guide engineering teams in establishing best practices, innovating testing methods, and ensuring the safety and performance of autonomous systems. Your influence will help shape the future of evaluation methodologies for AI systems and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), architecting solutions tailored to the needs of AI developers, systems engineers, and safety stakeholders.

About the Organization: The Autonomous Vehicle (AV) organization is committed to pushing the limits of developing autonomous vehicles through innovative simulation technologies and novel iterative processes. The Behavioral Validation team aims to facilitate software launches and informed release decisions via advanced simulation verification and validation strategies, prototypes, and protocols. What You'll Do:

  • Establish requirements and metrics for ensuring the safety and comfort of autonomous vehicle operations.

  • Lead the analysis and characterization of various autonomous behaviors, guiding software development and launch decisions.

  • Prototype and create simulation-based and road-based testing strategies to support ongoing and scalable software release cycles.

  • Utilize your experience in systems engineering and data analysis to promote data-driven design, validation, risk assessment, and prioritization decisions.

  • Develop and manage roadmaps for establishing long-term and stable requirements, verification/validation, and software solutions to complex problems spanning multiple product lifecycles.

  • Mentorship of team members and facilitating cross-team collaboration to define behavioral validation strategies for new launches.

Your Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields.

  • 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, robotics, systems analysis, data analysis, statistical analysis, or related fields.

  • Proficient in SQL, Python, and C++ for large data set analysis.

  • Exceptional analytical thinking abilities with a knack for interpreting data and drawing meaningful conclusions.

  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, transitioning from rapid code prototypes to detailed long-term planning.

  • Excellent communication skills, adept at switching between high-level overviews and detailed discussions.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge

  • Experience in robotics, autonomous vehicles, vehicle development, or ADAS.

  • Familiarity with robotics simulation environments.

  • Experience in analyzing automotive collision data.

  • Experience in developing dashboards and data visualizations with tools like Looker or Jupyter notebooks.

  • Industry experience in system engineering and requirements management, including system analysis, requirements authoring, test generation, and validation activities.

  • Experience with requirements management tools such as Jama, DNG, or DOORS.

  • A proven record of successful systems engineering for safety-critical products.

Location: This role is categorized as remote.

Compensation: The salary range for this role is $165,000 to $253,200. Actual base salaries will vary based on relevant factors. Additionally, a bonus program rewards individual and company performance.
