SUMMARY

Serves as an Evening Day (Monday - Friday) Camp Counselor for Summer Camps at the Texas School for the Deaf, from June 1 through July 2, 2026. Engages campers in daily activities and evening programs that promote learning, recreation, and social interaction. Provides direct support and supervision to ensure camper safety and well-being throughout the camp day. Encourages skill development, teamwork, and self-expression within individual and group activities. Works with camp staff to deliver a balanced schedule of educational and recreational experiences.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Attends SCP team meetings as requested.
  2. Responds to emails within 2 business days.
  3. Functions camp lead.
  4. Accumulate information on campers' individual communication methods and strategies.
  5. Provides a supporting role with conflict resolution.
  6. Achieves a safe, fun, and stimulating learning environment for campers.
  7. Displays proper conduct to set examples for campers and staff.
  8. Assists with a range of administrative duties.
  9. Collaborates with other staff to plan various activities.
  10. Demonstrates appropriate interactions with campers for the summer camps & programs staff, campers and community.
  11. Maintains an ability to follow tasks through to completion.
  12. Assists with the check-in and check-out process for campers.
  13. Maintains a collaborative, team approach relationship with student life and residential services, health center, cafeteria, security, transportation, and cashier.
  14. Complete assessments towards campers and staff.
  15. Accompany campers on field trips.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.
  17. Other duties as assigned by the SCP team.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Six months experience working in an educational or school environment
  2. Six months experience working in a deaf and hard of hearing environment
  3. Experience and understanding accommodations and needs of students
  4. Must be available for the duration of the program.
  5. Minimum of six months experience operating Google systems such as Docs, Sheets, ECT.
  6. Sign Language: The ultimate required proficiency level for the position using the levels designated in the Signed Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) is ADVANCED.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Certified in First Aid.
  2. Experience in summer camp or work of a similar nature.
  3. Experience working in a team environment.

  1. Instructional Knowledge- knowledge of content; instructional methodologies.
  2. Problem solving-the individual identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
  3. Effective Communication-the individual must be able to appropriately communicate with campers, camp staff, parents, families, and the public.
  4. Quality control-the individual demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors own work to ensure quality.
  5. Dependability-the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance.
  6. Safety and security-the individual actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures, and uses equipment and materials properly.
  7. Interpersonal Skills-the individual maintains confidentiality, remains open to others' ideas and exhibits willingness to try new things.
