Senior Backend Engineer

We are looking for a talented and experienced Senior Backend Engineer (Laravel) to join our dynamic engineering team. In this key role, you will design, develop, and enhance robust and scalable backend systems utilizing Laravel and advanced PHP technologies. You will apply your extensive knowledge in backend engineering, cloud computing, and distributed systems to tackle complex challenges and spearhead technical projects. As a senior team member, you will mentor fellow engineers, establish best practices, and work collaboratively across departments to deliver high-quality, maintainable solutions.

Your Job Responsibilities

• Design, architect, and develop high-performance Laravel applications and microservices using PHP 8+ and Laravel 11+.
• Lead the creation and deployment of cloud-native applications on platforms like AWS, Azure, or DigitalOcean, ensuring they are scalable and reliable.
• Utilize object-oriented programming (OOP) and SOLID principles to craft clean, maintainable, and reusable code.
• Design and optimize database schemas and queries using MySQL or PostgreSQL, ensuring efficient data access.
• Implement event sourcing, queues, caching, and job management for maximum performance and scalability.
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and integrate with external services.
• Conduct code reviews, manage CI/CD workflows, and perform static analysis with tools such as Laravel Pint, PHPStan, and GitHub Actions.
• Mentor junior engineers and uphold coding standards across all Laravel projects.
• Collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and the Solutions team to align technical solutions with business objectives.
• Showcase Axelerant's Laravel expertise through blogging, webinars, and community engagement.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• 5+ years of experience in backend development using PHP and the Laravel framework.
• Proficiency with frontend technologies such as Livewire, Vue.js, Alpine.js, or Inertia.js.
• Strong understanding of MySQL/PostgreSQL, Redis, Horizon, and Eloquent ORM.
• Proven track record in designing and optimizing APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud environments (AWS/Azure/DigitalOcean).
• Familiarity with testing frameworks like PestPHP or PHPUnit and best practices for maintaining code quality.
• Solid grasp of software design patterns focusing on scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills for mentoring and guiding teams.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).

Good To Have

• Experience with Filament PHP (custom resources, actions, widgets).
• Familiarity with multi-tenant or microservices architectures.
• Experience in eCommerce, SaaS, or Fintech sectors.
• Understanding of monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or ELK Stack.
• Contributions to open-source Laravel or Filament projects.
