QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Five (5) years of progressive experience in fleet maintenance, including heavy and light-duty vehicles.
  • Minimum two (2) years of supervisory or lead technician experience in a fleet or repair shop environment or combination of education, training.
  • And/or work experience equal to or higher than the requirements listed above as determined by Human Resources.
Licenses or Certifications:
  • Possession of an appropriate driver's license for equipment operated and any license, training, or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks.

JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Fleet Supervisor plays a vital role in the daily operations of the City of Pensacola Fleet Garage. This position assists the Fleet Supervisor in coordinating and supervising the maintenance and repair of a mixed fleet of heavy trucks, equipment, and light-duty vehicles. Responsibilities include overseeing Heavy-Duty and Light-Duty Mechanics and providing Direct supervision to Parts Procurement Specialists, Maintenance /Tire Technician and Auto Body Technician - as well as acting as the primary backup to the Fleet Supervisor during their absence. This role ensures all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable regulations and internal policies. Performance is evaluated based observed and attained results.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assist the Fleet Service Supervisor in overseeing all fleet mechanics in the daily planning, coordination, and execution of fleet maintenance and repair activities.
  • Prioritize and assign repair tasks based on operational needs, safety requirements, and vehicle availability to ensure timely and accurate completion of work.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance and repairs; contribute to the development of reports on fleet performance, maintenance costs, and downtime.
  • Provide input to support budget planning. Provide direct supervision to procurement specialists, fleet maintenance/tire technicians, auto body specialists, ensuring productivity and adherence to standards.
  • Monitor employee performance by offering guidance, support, training, mentoring, and conducting evaluations to promote professional growth and operational excellence.
  • Enforce safety policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality control standards.
  • Administer performance evaluations and implement progressive discipline when necessary.
  • Coordinate with Parts Procurement Specialists to ensure availability of parts, timely ordering, accurate parts requisition and maintain optimal inventory levels and Assist with parts room organization, cost control efforts, and support audits as required.
  • Monitor work orders and repairs to ensure accuracy and completeness, maintaining detailed documentation of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
  • Serve as Acting Fleet Supervisor in their absence, assuming full responsibility for shop operations, decision-making, and communication with other departments and leadership. Provide leadership continuity and support during shift transitions, vacations, or emergency coverage to ensure seamless operations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Strong leadership, team building, and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of diagnostics, repair procedures, and preventive maintenance for diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles and equipment.
  • Familiarity with fleet management systems and repair tracking software.
  • Strong organizational and decision-making skills.
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and work orders.
  • Working knowledge of parts procurement, inventory control, and vendor coordination.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to hold or feel, reach with hands and arms, walk, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, and crouch. Specific vision abilities include near distance, far distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Job duties are completed both indoors and in the field.

The employee regularly lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Some jobs may require an employee to be exposed to outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions.
