Be an activity assistant with older adults on Thursday afternoons

Wilder provides Customized Living Services to residents who live in two Saint Paul Public Housing apartment buildings: Hamline Hi-Rise and Ravoux Hi-Rise. These personalized services support adults with daily-living personal and health care to live independently.

Wilder organizes various activities throughout the calendar year to keep residents engaged in programming. As an Activities Assistant Volunteer, you will help support monthly events for residents and support different weekly activities. On Thursday afternoons, we have a mix of conversation, games, and music therapy.

Responsibilities:

  • Review orientation and training materials.
  • Assist residents with activities and participate in programming, such as serving refreshments, helping with bingo or games, and socializing.
  • Help with setting up and cleaning up for events.
  • Help foster a welcoming environment by engaging in conversation with participants.
  • Report any resident concerns or observations to your volunteer supervisor.
  • May be other projects if time allows.

Qualifications Needed:

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to interact with and assist people of varying backgrounds, cultures and identities, including race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, ability, gender, gender expression, religion, etc.
  • Complete a criminal background check and Department of Human Services NetStudy (Wilder covers the cost).
  • Complete a Mantoux/TB screening test (Wilder covers the cost).
  • Highly respectful of confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal and people skills to build rapport with participants.
  • Helpful demeanor and friendly.
  • Dependable and on time.
  • Able to listen and carefully follow directions.
