2025-2026 School Year Primary Purpose:
Mentor, facilitate and support identified at- risk and designated special education students who experience behavior difficulties. The Behavior Interventionist works with the students to help them to be productive and successful in the school community. The Behavior Interventionist is also a resource to the classroom teacher. Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Highly qualified status for paraprofessionals
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work with children with behavior problems
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to communicate effectively
CPI training is mandatory
Experience:
Some experience working with children preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support:
- Serve all special education students that have a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP). In addition, the BI may work with other special education students experiencing behavior difficulties.
- Serve at-risk students experiencing behavior problems as assigned by counselor and/or administrator.
- Provide teachers with insight regarding possible obstacles to student's progress.
- Regularly conduct social skills lessons for students.
- Maintain documentation about all assigned students' progress and the interventions provided.
- Monitor students' progress/behavior in the classroom and other campus settings.
- Provide feedback to teachers and administrators on student behavior.
- Develop motivational system for assigned students.
- Report behavior progress to teachers to report to parents as required by the BIP and as part of 3-week academic progress reports.
- Attend Assessment, Review and Dismissal (ARD) meetings for students with a BIP.
- Assist with functional Behavioral Assessments and the development of BIP's when requested by a Student Assistance Committee (SAC) or ARD committee.
- Serve DAEP or STARS students weekly as assigned by campus administrator.
- Provide behavior intervention in crisis situations. This may include restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.
- Support the TBSI initiative.
Other:
- Attendance may be requested for parent/teacher conferences.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Be punctual in all areas.
- Maintain a positive attitude.
- Be a positive role model for all students.
- Complete reports as required by the Special Education office or for secondary PGPs.
- Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
- Use appropriate verbal and written communications with students and parents.
- Provide interaction that is supportive, courteous and respectful with students, parents, staff, community members and other professionals.
- Comply with board policies.
- All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pulling and pushing
Occasional district-wide travel, Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks and other classroom equipment, training to be able to restrain students will be required.
