We prefer candidates with over a year of experience as a registered nurse in an acute care or hospital setting.

Location: UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central, Colorado Springs, CO

Department: MHC Forensic Nurse Examiners

FTE: Full Time, 0.9, 72.00 hours per pay period (2 weeks)

Shift: Nights

Pay: $35.29 - $54.71 / hour, depending on relevant experience.

Summary: This role involves performing forensic examinations for individuals affected by sexual assault or violence, delivering essential patient care and referrals.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtain medical histories and accounts of assaults from patients.
  • Assess patients' psychological conditions and conduct physical examinations.
  • Collect, preserve evidence, and document findings with precision.
  • Provide direct nursing care for injuries and administer prophylactic medications.
  • Facilitate referrals for further treatment as necessary.
  • Communicate with victims and their families about evidence and treatment options while promoting informed decision-making.
  • Offer advocacy for victims and provide expert testimony in court trials.
  • Utilize critical thinking and decisive judgment in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

Requirements:

  • Must be a Registered Nurse with state licensure.
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program and complete Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training within 3 months of hire.
  • 1 year of RN experience or 6 months in an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner or Certified Nurse Midwife) role.
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, valid through 60 days of hire.
