About this Job:
The Assistant Director of Nursing is a crucial leader within MedStar Health's nursing team, specifically focused on the Operating Room. This role involves collaborating closely with the Director of Nursing to ensure exceptional leadership and oversight within the department. The Assistant Director will direct and coordinate nursing and patient care delivery, emphasizing holistic, culturally competent, and person-centered quality care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work alongside the Director of Nursing to develop department goals and ensure adherence to clinical standards and regulations.
- Build effective partnerships across departments to enhance patient care services, ensuring smooth unit operations.
- Set performance standards for staff, evaluate performance, and provide constructive feedback to foster professional growth.
- Conduct annual performance reviews, ensuring alignment with performance expectations and developmental goals.
- Maintain consistent communication with nursing leadership and other clinical areas to coordinate operations effectively.
- Participate in budget management and promote fiscal responsibility within the unit operations.
- Implement patient care delivery strategies that optimize outcomes and enhance the patient experience.
- Champion quality and safety initiatives, leading unit safety huddles, and addressing care delivery concerns proactively.
- Assist in recruitment, evaluation, and development of unit staff, ensuring appropriate staffing levels.
- Contribute to the orientation of new hires and ensure ongoing competency assessments are maintained.
- Foster a professional and patient-first atmosphere, encouraging collaboration and satisfaction among patients and staff.
- Engage in committees and projects to promote professional nursing excellence and community outreach.
- Stay informed about trends in nursing and healthcare through professional development activities.
- Provide clinical leadership and maintain direct care responsibilities as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience: 3-4 years of progressive Operating Room nursing experience required; leadership experience preferred.
- Licenses and Certifications: Valid RN license in Maryland or D.C.; CPR certification required; specialty certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong problem-solving and independent judgment skills; effective verbal and written communication.
- Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
