Status: 180 Days
REPORTS TO: Principal
Schedule: 5 hours per day Monday through Friday 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. with 30 minute lunch break.
Summary
Assist in maintaining an organized, attractive, functional library media center conducive to an integrated instructional program.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Process new materials for circulation and use.
- Assist librarians and students during book selection and book exchange.
- Maintain and respond to requests for interlibrary loan items using the Access PA VDX System; assist students and staff in the circulation of library materials; use of the online catalog and use of online database resources.
- Monitor and oversee all circulation functions including checkout, check-in, and reserves.
- Monitor library attendance and cover circulation desk; assist with inquiries.
- Perform a variety of clerical and computer-related tasks as assigned; manage "on hold" materials for patrons; process mail.
- Maintain and update library files and materials and assist with adding, deleting and correcting patron data.
- Prepare and type correspondence, announcements, and reports as necessary.
- Maintain and straighten the shelves of library materials; pull and repair library materials which need to be mended; process new library materials received for circulation; process periodicals for use and circulation, sort and organize returned materials by type, location or collection.
- Prepare and print overdue notices and student fine notices on a weekly basis. Send letters/bills as needed to parents; collect and record fines.
- Research and prepare materials for faculty and staff, and assist students on the Internet, and other reference materials for education use; assist students with selecting and locating materials.
- Operate copy machines, book cover machines, etc..
- Assist with special events as requested such as the school related meetings, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is necessary
- Previous library experience is a plus; however, not required.
- Microsoft experience required
- Must be able to work with students
- Knowledge of Public School Code
- Valid PA Driver's license and /or access to independent transportation
- Pre-employment requirements as designated by the PA School Code
- Ability to reach above and below the waist
- Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
- Ability to use both hands for repetitive motion
- Considerable bending and twisting of the body required
- Some stooping and squatting required
- Ability to lift and/or carry supplies up to 25 pounds, stand, walk, or move throughout the building for extended periods.
- Normal school building environment
- Ability to work in fluctuating temperatures with varying humidity levels
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills
