You will gain valuable expertise in various areas such as NESC compliance, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, and Field Data Collection. This position offers a hybrid working structure based out of the Pittsburgh area, with some regional travel expected (approximately 20%).
What You Will Do:
- Independently develop and execute design and construction work packages for overhead and underground electrical distribution systems for Leidos customers.
- Review client-provided work and assess the scope and requirements.
- Conduct engineering calculations including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, conductor sag and tensions for recommended spans, and voltage drop evaluations.
- Provide engineering support during construction and perform post-construction evaluations to ensure compliance with engineering and construction standards.
- Analyze outage causes and recommend engineering-driven solutions.
- Coordinate field design requirements for complex projects, including utility conflicts, easements, and regulatory applications.
What You Need to Succeed:
- At least 2 years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; equivalent experience or certifications may be considered.
- Experience managing distribution projects from initiation to design approval, including interactions with clients.
- Knowledge of utility reliability projects and proficiency with the NESC.
- Willingness to engage in both field and office work and to travel for customer-related activities using your personal vehicle (travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates).
Additional Preferences:
- Experience with QAQC processes and providing cost estimates.
- Familiarity with design tools such as Pole Foreman and O-Calc.
- Previous experience with utility companies such as FirstEnergy.
