Presque Isle, ME - FT/Days & Evenings - Temp-to-Hire Opportunity

Job Description:

We are seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to work for a residential non-profit program in Presque Isle. Excellent full-time opportunity for a compassionate, dependable individual that would enjoy working alongside adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Full-Time/Days & Evenings: 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Monday - Thurs, and 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Sunday. $18.31/hr.

The Direct Support Professional will assist with personal care, skill-building, and community activities in order to help residents live full, independent lives. Employee will be responsible for fostering a safe and supportive environment in which residents can grow and develop the skills needed to sustain their personal well-being and pursue their own goals. This position allows for employees to train and become certified while on the job, and offers many rewarding opportunities to enrich the lives of program residents and support the local community.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily supervision, support, and training to help individuals meet goals related to daily living, social development, employment skills, safety, and independence.
  • Assist with personal hygiene, toileting, daily living tasks, and self-care needs.
  • Support individuals with challenging behaviors using approved de-escalation methods.
  • Transport individuals to community activities, appointments, and work programs.
  • Provide supervision and encouragement during activities to ensure safety and engagement.
  • Maintain a safe environment at all times.
  • Use wheelchairs, lifts, and assistive devices safely and according to training.
  • Administer medications (after completing required training) and document accurately.
  • Assist with basic housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, trash removal, and sanitizing surfaces.
  • Remove snow/ice from walkways or vehicles when needed.
  • Complete timely, accurate documentation of daily activities, goals, and progress.
  • Report concerns, unusual incidents, or needed updates to supervisors.
  • Attend all required trainings and maintain necessary certifications.
Job Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Maine driver's license with good driving record.
  • Ability to lift 25 - 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally (with assistance).
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow support plans.
  • Willingness to assist with personal care and hygiene.
  • Ability to manage emotional or physical emergencies.
  • Ability to complete all required trainings and certifications (CPR, SafetyCare, DSP Certification, and CRMA) within allotted timeframe (3-6 months).
  • Background check required.
