Position Summary:

Theatre Xavier seeks a Head Carpenter Mentor to be filled immediately. This is a part-time position. 5+ years experience in stage craft or similar job required as well as strong educational experience. The appropriate candidate has a passion for theatre and working with high school students. This position requires the candidate to oversee and teach high school theatre students stage craft techniques in the process of building sets for Theatre Xavier Main Stage productions. The candidate should have a strong knowledge of technical theatre and stage craft techniques as well as a strong dedication to safety. The candidate must be able to educate students in stage craft and proper safety procedures. This position requires close work with the Technical Director and Co-Directors of Theatre Xavier. This is a per show stipend paid position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensures student health and safety are maintained through proper supervision and enforcement of safety rules
  • Monitors student behavior, especially during busy times
  • Provides one-on-one instruction to the students
  • Implements safe and effective procedures for using tools, fully training students before usage
  • Keeps Scene Shop and Stage clean and safe
  • Works cooperatively with TX Technical Director and Co-Directors
  • Checks in with Technical Director regarding tasks, issues and projects.
  • Serves as an initial point of contact; helps students use tools, equipment, and material in the Scene Shop
  • Assists Technical Director with execution of set drawings
  • Takes initiative to complete projects and propose new ideas
  • Promptly informs Technical Director of any issues that need attention

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
  • 5+ years experience in stage craft or similar job
  • Strong experience working in an educational setting
