The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position on 3 West at UH WCMC and WCMCH is a critical role focused on delivering high-quality nursing care to patients in a hospital setting. This role involves working a full-time schedule from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every other week, providing consistent and compassionate care during these shifts. The LPN will collaborate closely with registered nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to implement patient care plans and monitor patient progress. The position requires keen attention to detail, strong clinical skills, and the ability to respond effectively to patient needs and emergencies. Ultimately, the LPN will contribute to improving patient outcomes and ensuring a safe, supportive environment for patients and their families.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current and valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the state of employment.
- Completion of an accredited practical nursing program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Demonstrated clinical experience in a hospital or acute care setting.
- Ability to work the specified full-time schedule of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every other week.
- Experience working in a medical-surgical or similar inpatient unit.
- Advanced certifications such as IV therapy or wound care.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems used at UH WCMC and WCMCH.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills developed through previous healthcare roles.
- Continuing education or training in patient safety and quality improvement.
- Provide direct nursing care to patients, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and assisting with daily living activities.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
- Document patient information accurately and timely in electronic health records to ensure continuity of care.
- Observe and report changes in patient conditions to registered nurses and physicians promptly.
- Assist with patient education and support to promote recovery and health maintenance.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient care environment in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Participate in shift handoffs and communicate effectively with team members to ensure seamless patient care.
Skills:
The required clinical skills enable the LPN to provide safe and effective patient care, including medication administration and vital sign monitoring. Strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and educating patients and families. Proficiency with electronic health records ensures accurate documentation and supports continuity of care. Preferred skills such as IV therapy and wound care certifications enhance the nurse's ability to manage complex patient needs. Additionally, critical thinking and time management skills are used daily to prioritize tasks and respond promptly to changes in patient conditions.
