What you'll do
This role is ideal for a hardware engineer eager to contribute to a small, fast-paced team. You will design, document, implement, prototype, and test cutting-edge high-speed digital circuit boards for encrypted communications systems, including spaceborne and ground-based encryptors and embedded cryptographic devices. You will interface and collaborate with system, programmable logic, software, and test engineers as new capabilities are developed and transitioned into service. Additionally, you will provide support to production and product support to help maintain operational networks when development support is required.
The day-to-day
- Designing, prototyping, and testing high-speed (up to 10GbE) digital circuit boards, including microprocessor, FPGA, memory, networking, optical, and power supply components
- Design for manufacture, assembly, and test
- Utilizing modeling and simulation, schematic, CAD, and signal propagation software tools such as Mentor Graphic DxDesigner, Expedition/Planner, and Hyperlynx
- Proficiency with test equipment - lab bench power supplies, multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, eye pattern analyzers, and traffic generators
- Collaborating with technology suppliers and subcontractors
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet schedules, and see a program to completion
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work with system, hardware, firmware, software, and test teams
- Knowledge of encryption and information assurance technologies
- Understanding of network communication concepts
- PWB design and layout, including concepts for HS Layout
- Conducting trade study and analysis
- Performing make or buy analysis
- 8 years of hardware design experience and a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
- Foundational knowledge of analog and digital logic and timing considerations
- Ability to prioritize, be detail-oriented, and manage time well to accomplish multiple tasks in parallel
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work with a temporally and geographically diverse team
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and take ownership of tasks and results
- US citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance is required
- Ability to travel up to 10%
- Ability to document and report on technical solutions/findings
- Good working knowledge of MS Office products for documentation creation and modification
- Familiarity with standard test equipment (i.e., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzer, power supplies, etc.)
- Familiarity with production-related processes and common failure modes
- High aptitude for learning new things
- Desire to be part of a multidisciplinary team to evaluate and troubleshoot production-related issues
