DGS SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE MANAGER Department of General Services State of Tennessee Real Estate Asset Management Division Nashville, TN Starting monthly salary: $5,050.00 - $6,310.00 Closing Date: 11/30/2025This position is designed as hybrid.
Who we are and what we do:
The DGS Safety and Compliance Manager ensures workplace safety and compliance with relevant regulations for the Department of General Services. This role develops and implements risk management, safety programs, conducts safety training, and investigates incidents to improve workplace safety. The DGS Safety and Compliance Manager also include identifies and assesses workplace hazards, maintains safety records, and reports incidents to regulatory agencies. They provide safety and compliance information and best practices for agency floor wardens, including EAP, AED, and First Aid training programs. They also manage third-party vendors responsible for our EAP and AED programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Program Development and Implementation:
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure a safe work environment.
Hazard Identification and Assessment:
- Identify potential hazards, conduct risk assessments, and develop control measures to mitigate risks.
Training and Education:
- Provide safety training to employees, including orientation, hazard awareness, and emergency response procedures.
Incident Investigation:
- Investigate workplace incidents and accidents, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions in conjunction with TOSHA public sector inspector.
Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, including OSHA and TOSHA standards.
Recordkeeping and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of safety training, inspections, and incident investigations. Prepare reports for regulatory agencies.
Safety Inspections:
- Conduct regular safety inspections of facilities and equipment to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate safety information to employees, supervisors, and management.
- Collaborate with other departments to address safety concerns.
Performance Measurement:
- Track safety performance metrics, analyze data, and identify opportunities for improvement.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in safety or industrial engineering or other acceptable field and experience equivalent to five years of professional occupational safety inspection work.
- Qualifying professional occupational safety inspection experience may be substituted for the required education, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of four years.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and training skills.
- Ability to identify and assess hazards, develop risk control measures, and investigate incidents.
- Knowledge of relevant safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA/TOSHA).
- Must have, or quickly obtain, their OSHA 10 certification (more preferred 30-hour certification)
- Experience in developing and implementing safety programs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective task management and prioritization skills.
- Ability to assist alternate ESC with real estate-related roles and responsibilities during emergency activations.
