Position Summary: The VHT Consultant II will support the design, assessment, and modernization of elevator and escalator systems within Henderson's Elevator Consulting Division. This position is ideal for a developing elevator professional looking to expand their expertise in a consultative role. The Consultant II will work across a range of sectors including commercial, healthcare, education, and government to provide field assessments, design development, and technical insight. The role offers a mix of field work, report writing, client interaction, and internal collaboration in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and requires strict adherence to all relevant elevator field safety practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently conduct field assessments, audits and surveys.
- Develop maintenance and modernization specifications tailored to client needs.
- Analyze and interpret submittals, shop drawings and performance data.
- Produce accurate VHT-specific construction drawings.
- Confidently interpret construction drawings with minimal oversight.
- Develop new elevator design solutions, coordinate with architects/MEP engineers, and integrate requirements into project documentation
- Conduct traffic analyses using Elevate or equivalent software, interpret results and prepare recommendations
- Serve as primary point of contact for clients on assigned projects.
- Lead client meetings independently.
- Deliver solutions-focused communication and tailored technical recommendations.
- Write and refine reports, narratives, and proposals.
- Prepares basic specification and design documentation
- Mark up / comment on contractor submittals, drawings, and data for compliance and functionality
- Participate in QA/QC reviews and contribute to project coordination meetings
- Coordinate effectively with design disciplines to ensure integration.
- Review work less experienced consultants and contribute to quality control.
- Actively participate in design reviews and internal sessions.
- Review and refine new design deliverables to ensure alignment with codes and client requirements Maintain timely documentation using internal systems and tools (ClickUp, Bluebeam, Procore)
- Contribute to RFP responses and participate in client pitches.
- Cultivate new opportunities through professional networks.
- Assist with project scoping and resource planning at the discipline level.
- Highlight and communicate new design capabilities in client pursuits
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management preferred
- 3 - 5 years of experience in the elevator/escalator industry (OEM, maintenance, modernization) with degree, or 7 or more years of experience in the elevator/escalator industry without a related bachelor's degree.
- Strong working knowledge of ASME A17.1, A17.2, NFPA 70, and IBC
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specs, and construction documents
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Bluebeam, and project platforms like ClickUp and Procore
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience writing or reviewing specifications
- OSHA 10/30 or other site safety credentials
- Must demonstrate proficiency in all core competencies as described and characterized in this job description.
- Regular travel to client sites and construction zones
- Must be able to traverse ladders and access hoist ways, pits, and mechanical rooms
- Exposure to typical jobsite conditions: noise, dust, and moving equipment
- Ability to move up to 50 lbs. and work in confined or elevated spaces
- Required to wear appropriate PPE
