As a registered nurse, you are expected to consistently deliver the best in care and customer service and demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with our patients, their families, visitors, and with each other. As part of the health care team, RNs assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and provision of individualized care for patients of all ages. The registered nurse also utilizes delegation and critical thinking skills to provide quality service through a team oriented, collaborative approach to patient care.
Responsibilities include:
- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in order to achieve optimum patient outcomes.
- Collaborates with members of the health care team to develop, implement, and evaluate an interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Accurately administers and documents treatments and medications.
- Identifies and addresses patient/family educational needs.
- Contributes to performance improvement activities.
- Demonstrates the role of patient advocate and provides psychological/social/cultural support.
- Applies knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients.
- Determines and performs within clinical, leadership, and/or education pathways.
- Exhibits clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances.
- Plans strategies to reduce length of stay and improve patient outcomes.
- Functions as a role model for clinical practice.
- Completes manager/director predetermined projects.
- Uses problem-solving methods to facilitate resolution to patient and personnel situations.
- Takes an active role in the orientation of new employees.
- Provides feedback to staff using appropriate communication and documentation.
- Participates in unit, hospital, and/or system activities.
- Assists with providing education activities for the unit/department.
Requirements:
Education: Graduate of school of professional nursing of an accredited college or graduate of an approved program eligible to sit for the VA licensure exam.
Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed as Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure.
Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required.
Other: Computer skills required for electronic medical record (EPIC).
