Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director of IT, the Educational & Information Technology Support Specialist is a key cross-functional expert supporting academic technology, instructional innovation, infrastructure oversight, and technical systems at the Graduate School of Journalism. The incumbent will serve as the primary liaison between academic users, technical systems, and strategic planning across the school, providing hands-on support for digital learning environments, classroom technology, and administrative workflows. They will Work with CUIT and other central departments.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with faculty on the design, development, and evaluation of hybrid, online and multimedia-rich courses. Develop and design both synchronous and asynchronous online courses for executive education and degree programs.
  • Provides training, workshops, and documentation on educational tools and platforms including Canvas (Courseworks), video conferencing, assessment tools, and content management systems.
  • Supports integration of instructional technology into pedagogy, advising on best practices for teaching with digital tools.
  • Addresses technology-related needs for instructors, staff, and students in real time, especially during classes and events.
  • Help oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of all technology-enhanced spaces including classrooms, lecture halls, editing suites, and event spaces.
  • Serves as a tier-1 and tier-2 escalation point for classroom technology, AV equipment, workstation, network and infrastructure issues, ensuring minimal disruption to academic activities.
  • Works closely with CUIT and central services to maintain uptime of critical platforms, and network services. Participates in infrastructure planning, equipment refresh cycles, and implementation of new academic systems.
  • Help identify operational needs and collaborates with departments to select, implement, and manage administrative and academic software platforms.
  • Supports database systems, reporting tools, and user interfaces for academic and administrative use.
  • Provides strategic guidance and adoption of instructional and enterprise technologies.
  • Helps maintain internal knowledge base, helpdesk systems, and client-facing technology resources.
  • Performs other related duties and special projects, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent

Experience: Minimum 3-5 years related experience

Other Skills:

  • Familiarity with ITIL framework
  • Process and analytical experience and ability
  • Proficiency with some of the following technologies: Windows, UNIX/Linux/ Mac OS X;
  • Relational Databases; SQL; MS Excel, MS Access; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to independently research problems, develop solutions, effectively prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, weekends and some evenings when required.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferably the candidate will have a background in the basic principles of instructional design, with a focus on active learning.
  • Experience building courses in Canvas (CourseWorks) and experience designing both synchronous and asynchronous courses.
  • Ideally, they will have experience creating instructional materials in a variety of modalities, including video and audio, and creating interactive activities using tools such as Articulate Storyline or H5P.

Other Skills:

  • Proficiency with ticket management solutions like ServiceNow, Freshdesk, or SysAid.
  • Familiarity with endpoint management solutions like JAMF, SCCM, or Intune.
