Requirements:The Ophthalmic Medical Technician is responsible for collecting and recording ocular and systemic patient histories, visual acuities, BP, IOP, Auto refractions, Manifest Refractions, performing external examinations, and dry-eye testing, as well as disease specific extra testing
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Collecting and recording patient medical history
- Instructing patients on post-operative care, medication use, contact lens care and exam expectations.
- Performing visual acuity testing, auto and Manifest Refractions (measurements for the glasses prescription), tonometry (measuring eye pressure) (Goldmann required)
- Measuring pupil size and reactivity using PERRLA
- Testing elements of movement (eye muscle function)
- Performing confrontational visual field testing, pachymetry (Corneal thickness measurement)
- Performing dry eye testing including Zone Quick and TBUT, Interferometry, brightness acuity testing
- Participating in light cleaning of the facility
- Maintaining a sanitized environment
- Performing corneal topography, retinal nerve fiber layer measurements, retinal thickness and topography, fluorescein angiography, B-scan ultrasonography
- Assisting with contact lens fitting and instructing patients on insertion and removal of contacts.
- Preparing for and assisting with in-office procedures including consenting patients
- Assisting with Lasers or minor procedures
Qualifications:
- Required: Minimal of one year in Ophthalmology or Optometry - supporting OD or MD
- Preferred: Certification
- Proficiency with EMR and EHR
Skills and Abilities:
- Superior interpersonal and communications skills.
- Ability to perform manifest refraction is required
- Ability to perform Goldmann tonometry is required.
- Ability to effectively multitask
- Attentive to detail and accuracy.
