Business Data Analyst

The Business Data Analyst (Energy Specialist) will review, trend, and analyze campus energy consumption data in support of utility billing and reporting functions of the Universitys Facility Management, Engineering and Energy (E&E) group. This position will also support data collection, reporting (internally to E&E groups and outside agencies), and evaluate data anomalies in utility consumption and related data. The analyst will review data collected with the Facility Performance unit and/or other university facility management units as applicable and assist with proper billing of self?support units to recover utility costs. The position will also collect and manage building and property data needed to support required data analysis. This role requires a specialized blend of technical and business analytic skills unique to utility operations.
Physical DemandsPrimarily in an office environment. May be required to enter confined spaces such as mechanical/electrical rooms and industrial facilities such as combined heat and power plants (CHP) and central heating and cooling plants for short durations. This position allows for telework up to one day per week, in accordance with departmental guidelines.
Preferences- Experience linking Excel data sets databases, especially MS Access.
- Experience using MS Access for custom data queries and reporting.
- Working knowledge and some experience with the development of Excel macros and VBA.
- Experience working in a higher education environment.
- Experience working with utility/energy tracking data, billing, or large accounting system?based data sets.
- Supportive certifications in data analysis.
Although driving a State Vehicle is not a requirement for this position, travel by foot or vehicle may be required from time to time for meetings, deliveries, etc. across campus. If driving a State vehicle, the incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Class C Drivers License or equivalent with fewer than six points.
Minimum QualificationsEducation: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Three (3) years of professional experience in data analysis, data reporting, or business intelligence.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of research methodologies using statistical and research?related software.
- Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Products, particularly Excel, and Google Office Suite.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to effectively interpret and present data findings to non?technical audiences.
- Ability to process large quantities of data with accuracy and discernment within a complex set of data windows.
- Ability to detect patterns within sets of data.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.
- Ability to interact with internal and external staff at all levels in a professional, courteous and efficient manner.
