We are seeking a passionate and curious data professional with experience in P&C data collection for E&S/S, Standard Lines (Personal and Commercial), and Farm. The ideal candidate will have experience with SQL, Python, R, and tools such as Databricks, Snowflake, PowerBI, and Verisk Touch Stone software. Data curiosity is essentialunderstand why data looks a certain way, seek correctness, and drive continuous improvement.
This individual contributor role is paired with senior team members on the Enterprise Catastrophe Risk Management (ECRM) Data Team (DMAT). DMAT collects, stores, validates, and publishes Nationwides property data for catastrophe risk management and beyond. You will own the process end?to?end, providing insight into why data is critical and how it impacts the enterprise.
Because this role straddles the lines of IT professional, property underwriter, and product manager, the ideal candidate would be familiar with all three aspects of insurance or have a willingness to learn. The role expects you to understand the business sufficiently to make accurate decisions in validation efforts and reporting.
Additional responsibilities include working with multiple business partners to deliver critical information for decision making. You will learn new technologies while impacting Nationwides financial results.
Key Qualifications- 4+ years of data experience with SQL, Python, and R.
- 4+ years of experience using Databricks, Snowflake, MS SQL Server, and AWS.
- Understanding of reporting tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or advanced Excel.
- Ability to translate data into actionable information.
- Strong organizational skills and acute attention to detail.
- Experience working in a fast?paced team environment.
- Solid communication skills and self?starter aptitude.
- Willingness to partner with business and technology stakeholders to understand needs and outcomes.
- Familiarity with property underwriting or insurance background.
- Willingness to learn new skills and grow within the organization.
This role does not qualify for employer?sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.
We intend to fill this role in Columbus, OH. Applications from internal and external candidates working remotely who bring critical industry skills and relevant experience may also be considered.
Key Responsibilities- Assists in research and implementation of financial engineering, data science, and statistical techniques for risk management.
- Supports regular testing of risk limits to guide management in asset allocation, risk transfer, and product growth decisions.
- Aids with quantitative modeling processes, ensuring models function as intended.
- Collaborates to maintain consistent model assumptions, processes, and outputs, ensuring adherence to standard methodologies.
- Reviews and analyzes model output to identify limitations and impacts.
- Assists in crafting and updating model documentation for rationale, assumptions, and business continuity.
- Applies expertise to develop creative solutions to business problems.
- Acts as the technology lead for risk analytics.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed. Reports to the Risk/Actuarial leader.
Compensation & LocationNational salary range: $85,500.00 $159,000.00. Expected starting salary: $85,500.00 $128,500.00. Full?time assignment located in Columbus, OH with potential remote work.
