The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the Maintenance Mechanic 2 (MM2) position at Mission Creek Corrections Center for Women. This position works in support of the warm closure of Mission Creek Corrections Center for Women and reports to the Construction and Maintenance Project Supervisor performing work such as inspections, servicing, installation, and corrective maintenance on plant equipment and systems, including painting, irrigation, grease interceptors, plumbing, steam, HVAC, sewer, water and sewer meters, storm drains, buildings and structures (floor systems, doors, windows, roofs), grounds, roads, pathways, fences, and related facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, diagnose, service, repair, install, and conduct preventive/corrective maintenance on plant equipment and systems such as grease interceptors, plumbing, boilers, low voltage systems, exhaust fans, plug?in appliances, sewer systems, storm drains, and water sampling.
  • Inspect, diagnose, service, install, and conduct preventive/corrective maintenance on buildings, building systems, and structures to include kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, office equipment, office space moves, floor systems, wall systems, doors, windows, and roofs.
  • Construct, maintain, and repair grounds, roads, pathways, walks, and fencing, including striping of parking lot stalls.
  • Perform repairs/replacement on hinges, doors, jams, door operating mechanisms, locking mechanisms, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and light fixtures.
  • Build, texture, patch, sand, paint, and repair holes and/or damage on all walls/ceilings/siding, parking lot striping, and exterior items.
  • Assist with HVAC repair work as necessary to keep critical systems operational.
  • Operate and maintain equipment such as cars, trucks, utility carts, scissor lifts, boom trucks, forklifts, backhoes, bobcats, and dump trucks.
  • Manage and dispose of hazardous waste/Washington State dangerous waste.
  • Work closely with and interact many times a week with all stakeholders and maintenance personnel to resolve maintenance issues and ensure they are addressed and resolved.
  • Escort DOC and non?DOC visitors inside the facility and on all facility grounds, as needed.
  • Maintain files and accurate records, including regulatory reporting within strict time frames.
  • Schedule delivery and pickup of project?related materials.
  • Maintain vegetation, lawn, and landscape by mowing, weed?whacking, and pruning vegetation in and outside the perimeter of the facility.
  • Conduct herbicide applications to control vegetation in and outside the secured perimeter, maintaining space between perimeter fences and ensuring vegetation free areas.
  • Maintain herbicide inventory and records, following state laws and safety guidelines.
  • Manage snow and ice removal operations.
  • Maintain equipment and tools associated with vegetation control and herbicide application.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Valid Drivers License.
  • Two (2) years of building trade, machining, or general construction experience.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle repair and body work, heavy equipment and equipment repair, small engine repair, and outside grounds maintenance.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications
  • Four years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction or repair work or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade.
