Summary

The Director of Development plays a vital role in the growth, development, and sustainability of Autism Breakthrough of Knoxville. This position is responsible for leading and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies to secure funding from individual donors, corporations, foundations, and government agencies. The Director of Development will work closely with the executive team, Agency Board of Directors, Foundation Board of Directors and program staff to establish and achieve fundraising goals that enables us to continue providing high-quality programs and services to our community.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategic and diversified fundraising plan to support the organization's short-term and long-term financial goals.
  • Prudently manages the organizations resources, within an approved budget and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and funder requirements.
  • Donor cultivation and stewardship.
  • Grant writing and reporting.
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit major gift prospects, as well as implement strategies to increase individual giving and donor retention.
  • Plan, market, and present at informational meetings.
  • Plan and execute fundraising events, including galas, benefit concerts, and other community based events.
  • Utilize social media and develop strategies for web-based messaging.
  • Assist with Breakthrough's advocacy and workforce development efforts.
  • Development of corporate identities and brand guidelines.
  • Development of collateral materials to include print pieces, signage, digital and website graphics, social media graphics, media kits, and more.
  • Assures that the organization and its mission, program, and services are consistently presented in a positive way in the community.
  • Works to ensure that the community's awareness of Autism Breakthrough increases year by year.
  • Represent the organization at public events, conferences, and networking opportunities to raise awareness and partnership.
  • Oversee the maintenance and effective use of the donor database, ensuring accurate and timely data entry, gift acknowledgement, and donor record management.
  • Lead and supervise a development team, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical fundraising standards, including maintaining confidentiality and protecting donor information.
  • In addition to agency reporting, this position also reports to the Foundation Board.
  • Perform other job-related functions as necessary depending upon operational needs

Requirements

A relevant portfolio must be provided to be considered for this position.
  • Bachelor' degree in a relevant field (Such as nonprofit management, business administration, or communications) Advanced degree or professional certification in fundraising or related field is a plus.
  • A minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
  • Proven track record of successfully raising funds from a variety of sources, including individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey the organization's mission and impact to diverse audiences.
  • Strong grant writing and proposal development skills, with experience in securing and managing grants.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, stakeholders, and community partners.
  • Ability to routinely sit, stand, occasionally bend/stoop/crawl, push/pull or lift loads up to 20 pounds.
  • Drive as required to accomplish assignments at various sites.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and adequate vehicle insurance.
  • Must be able to work in close harmony with other staff in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to assist individuals with development disabilities.
