PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To plan, conduct and compose all Deaf/Hard of Hearing Communication Assessments on referral students and those currently served by the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • Texas Certificate in Teaching Deaf/Hard of Hearing
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of sign language
  • Knowledge of Deaf Culture
  • Effective interpersonal skills
Experience:
  • Three (3) years of work experience in deaf education
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Management
  1. Conduct and compose Communication Assessments to help determine Auditory Impairment eligibility.
  2. Attend ARD meetings as the A.I. representative in member districts for referral students.
  3. Consult with classroom teachers regarding results from the Communication Assessment.
  4. Assist with the management of referrals that come into the office including the gathering of information, conducting assessments, attending IEP meetings, and consulting with the Director and AI Specialist.
  5. Participate in staffings to discuss results of the Communication Assessment.
  6. Assist administrators and teachers with the planning and administration of state assessments.
Professional Communication
  1. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with staff and administrators concerning student's academic, social and emotional concerns.
  2. Communicate with staff from Member Districts when setting up times to conduct Communication Assessments.
  3. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information.

  2. Participate as an effective team member who contributes to district and department goals.
  3. Perform all duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner.
