Braintree Elementary School, a small, rural school in Braintree, Vermont, is seeking a qualified and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as a long-term substitute for approximately 2.5 days a week. This part-time position requires a compassionate individual to provide essential health services, emergency care, and care coordination to our elementary student population. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and organized professional with a strong clinical background and a commitment to supporting student health and academic success in a rural school setting. Key Responsibilities - Student Health Services: Provide professional nursing care to students, including first aid, emergency care, and management of acute and chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, allergies, seizure disorders) during school hours. - Medication Administration: Safely and accurately administer prescribed and over-the-counter medications in accordance with physician orders, state regulations, and school district policies. - Health Assessments & Screenings: Conduct health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing) as mandated by the state of Vermont and follow up with students/families as needed. - Health Record Management: Maintain confidential and accurate student health records, immunization status, and individual health plans (IHPs) in compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, and Vermont Department of Health regulations. - Emergency Response: Serve as the primary responder for medical emergencies at school, coordinating necessary external emergency services (e.g., EMS) and communicating appropriately with staff, administration, and parents/guardians. - Infection Control: Implement and monitor infection control procedures to prevent the spread of communicable diseases within the school community. - Collaboration & Communication: Work collaboratively with school administration, teachers, counselors, and parents/guardians regarding student health needs, special education requirements (IEP/504), and modifications to school activities. Qualifications - License: Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Vermont. Skills: - Proficiency in administering first aid, CPR, and AED (current certification required). - Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. - Ability to work independently and manage the health needs of the entire elementary student body. Compensation - Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience, based on the school district's substitute or part-time employee pay scale.
