NSC Staffing is seeking an experienced Welder Lead to support ship repair and marine construction projects in [Enter Location]. This role is ideal for a highly skilled welder with proven leadership experience in the shipyard or marine industry who can manage personnel, ensure quality control, and maintain the highest standards of safety and workmanship.
Position Overview:
As a Welder Lead, you will oversee and participate in all welding and fitting activities aboard vessels and in shop environments. You will be responsible for coordinating hot work preparation, ensuring compliance with safety certifications, and managing the performance of welders and fitters to meet project timelines and quality standards. Your technical expertise and leadership will play a key role in ensuring the successful completion of all assigned work packages.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and prepare work sites for hot work, including hot work chits, gas-free certifications, and fire watch coverage.
- Determine material requirements and allocate resources to support project scopes.
- Read and interpret work specifications, blueprints, and technical drawings to direct team tasks.
- Manage and lead welding and fitting personnel to complete assigned work safely, efficiently, and to specification.
- Inspect welder fit-up prior to welding, document inspection results, and coordinate with QA for NDT and 009-06 inspections.
- Prepare and submit inspection deficiency reports and condition found reports as required.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and shipyard regulations at all times.
- Obtain and maintain welding qualifications for multiple processes, including GTAW, FCAW, GMAW, SMAW, BRAZE, and LOKRING.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 6-10 years of welding and fitting experience within the marine and/or shipyard industry.
- Proven leadership and supervisory experience in managing welding and fitting teams.
- Demonstrated knowledge of hot work safety requirements, including Marine Chemist certifications, Shipyard Competent Person training, and Gas-Free work scopes.
- Proficient in reading blueprints and working with 4E specifications.
- Knowledge of MIL-STD-22D, MIL-STD-1689, and Tech Pub-278.
- Ability to resolve conflicts, drive productivity, and maintain documentation accuracy.
- General computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office applications.
This position may require access to U.S. government or military sites. Candidates must be eligible to obtain base access clearance, which includes passing a background check and presenting valid government-issued identification (REAL ID-compliant or approved federal ID such as a U.S. passport).
Work Environment:
This position involves hands-on supervision in a shipyard or onboard vessel environment. The role requires attention to safety, technical expertise in welding, and strong team management skills.
