Position Summary: The Senior Project Scientist conducts field and office-based environmental and property due diligence on commercial real estate projects, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, Property Condition Assessments, Property Capital Needs Reports, and asbestos and lead-based paint sampling. This role collects and analyzes site data, performs field sampling, and drafts technical reports under the guidance of senior staff.

Location: Remote

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Travel to project locations to take detailed notes and photographs of sites (typically 1 day per week)
  • Experience working with Fannie Mae,Freddie Mac, REITs, and/or insurance companies
  • Conduct interviews with site contacts, regulators, and other stakeholders in person, by phone, and by email
  • Order and analyze government database records related to environmental conditions
  • Perform regulatory agency file reviews
  • Review local, state and federal databases
  • Review of subcontractor reports for accuracy of scope of work for submission to regulatory agencies
  • Draft standardized reports synthesizing findings from field work, interviews, and historical/regulatory research
  • Perform quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) on deliverables to the satisfaction of management and clients
  • Complete requested revisions and submit final reports within pre-established timelines
  • Compare analytical contaminant data to applicable federal, state, and local regulatory standards
  • Maintain accurate field notes, documentation, and project files in accordance with company standards
  • Train new hires and provide ongoing cross-training to other Project Scientists on field methodologies, sampling protocols, and technical reporting standards, ensuring consistency and quality across project teams
  • Comply with all site-specific and company health and safety protocols

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to work-product quality
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including report writing
  • Good computer skills, including proficiency with standard office and reporting software
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet established deadlines
  • Phase I/II Assessments
  • In-depth understanding of building systems
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification

Preferred Experience:

  • Licensed Asbestos InspectorProperty Condition Assessments (ASTM E2018)
  • Transaction Screen Assessments (ASTM E1528)
  • Record Search with Risk Assessments (SBA SOP 50 10 6)
  • Environmental Professional (EP)

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Biology, Environmental Science, Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field
  • 3+ years of relevant experience

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license required
