Job Description

Kleinfelder is seeking a hands-on Transportation Design Structural Engineer to join our transportation design team. In this role, you will be directly involved in the design and execution of a wide range of highway and transportation projects. You will work on everything from small enhancements to large infrastructure projects, including intersection improvements, road widenings, and interchange developments. Your responsibilities will include preparing engineering documents, performing design calculations, and ensuring that projects meet technical standards and regulatory requirements. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer with a strong technical background to contribute to key projects across Pennsylvania. This hybrid role is available in our New Cumberland, PA or Cranberry, PA office.

Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed design work for highway and transportation projects, including intersections, road widenings, interchanges, and smaller enhancements.
  • Prepare engineering documents for project advertisements and construction, ensuring all work complies with applicable design criteria and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct design calculations, technical analysis, and produce project specifications for transportation infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and sub-consultants to ensure design alignment and compliance with project requirements.
  • Assist with project budgeting, cost estimates, and schedule tracking as needed.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to gather data and ensure design accuracy.
  • Provide technical support during the construction phase, addressing any design-related questions or issues that arise.
  • Travel occasionally to project or client sites for meetings, site assessments, and to complete project-related tasks.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (BSCE) from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 6+ years of experience in structural, highway and/or transportation design.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • Strong hands-on experience with highway and transportation design, including roadway, intersection, and interchange projects.
  • PennDOT and/or Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) bridge design experience.
  • Proficiency in design and plan preparation using MicroStation and related software.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local jurisdiction permitting regulations.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for collaborating with team members, clients, and regulatory agencies.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
