Summary: The Executive Director will assist in handling responsibilities related to educational leadership. The Executive Director collects and analyzes data to inform educational decisions and best practices; provides support and assistance to associates and other staff reporting leadership aligning work to the school system goals, strategic planning and major initiatives. The Executive Director also provides formative and summative evaluations of principals as it relates to the work of their Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serves as a member of the Superintendent's Leadership Team.
  • Assists in the development of objectives for the Division of Curriculum and Instruction consistent with the stated goals of the School Board and Superintendent.
  • Advises and assists principals on School Improvement and application of Effective School Research at the building site.
  • Observes feedback on classroom practices and acts as a liaison with teachers in other schools and with central office administration and personnel.
  • Communicates through developing newsletters, bulletins, manuals and handbooks.
  • Encourages the teaching of developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Makes recommendations on matters of curriculum equality, resource and instructional equity, monitoring of student performance and student attendance.
  • Coordinates elementary, middle and high school staffing in consultation with the Chief Human Resources Officer.
  • Identifies critical and emerging issues of curriculum and instruction and recommends course(s) of action superiors.
  • Identifies staff development, in-service or training needs
  • Demonstrates expertise in interviewing, evaluating, and recommending applicants through the Human Resources Department.
  • Serves as a resource to teachers, principals, and other instructional personnel and the general public regarding programs of curriculum and instruction and related educational services for elementary or middle or high/alternative school levels.
  • Provides input on policies and procedures affecting elementary or middle or high/alternative schools and/or facilities programs.
  • Facilitates the provision of various pupil support services such as transfers, race relations, discipline, hearings, and suspensions
  • Administers and/or facilitates the provision of social work services, health services (including school nurses), child welfare and attendance, early childhood, 504/ADA, and I CARE/ADAPP, etc.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include assigning and directing work; addressing complaints and/or concerns and following up with staff to resolve these issues and any other issues as related to the requirements of the position.

Essential Functions/Qualifications/Requirements:

Current knowledge of best practices, continuous improvement strategies and high expectations for performance; commitment to maintaining high standards and increasing accountability for results at all levels. Current knowledge of school reform theories. Both strategic and tactical in thinking and problem solving; proven skills and experience in strategic planning, communicating a vision and goals to others and effectively implementing action plans throughout an organization.

Education and Experience:

The Executive Director should possess a Master's and/or Advanced Degree in educational leadership. Graduate study in curriculum development, supervision, and administration is preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience and at least three (3) years experience in supervising instruction is required.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in general use of a computer, the use of Email as a form of communication, and other job-specific equipment, software, and/or applications.
