A little bit about the role:

ORBCOMM currently has an opening for a Hardware Design Engineer on the Hardware team within the Product Development department. The Hardware team is a multidisciplinary, multi-site team consisting of electrical design, layout, industrial engineering, and documentation that works closely with the Embedded Systems, Product Integrity, and Software Engineering teams. The successful applicant will share in the responsibility of designing, validating and testing ORBCOMM's industrial IoT devices and sensors. Additional duties include participation in design reviews, testing and test automation, and documentation in our product lifecycle management tool.

This is a full-time position, which requires an in-office presence to support various aspects of the business, the successful candidate will work in our Sterling, Virginia office.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Electrical design
    1. Design and development of satellite, cellular, BLE, LoRa industrial IoT products
    2. Component selection and schematic capture
    3. PCB layout support
    4. PCB and schematic design review
    5. Schematic, BOM, and component documentation
  • Testing and design verification
    1. Functional and parametric testing over industrial temperature range
    2. Failure root cause analysis
  • Full product life cycle support
    1. Providing installation and product certification support
    2. Customization of standard products for specific large projects
    3. Supporting manufacturing for new product introduction
    4. Supply chain engineering support
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
  • 3 to 5 years experience in a similar position
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Strong English language skills are a must
  • Hardware bench skills (soldering, debug, test automation)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and strong time management skills
  • International languages an asset
