Position Overview and Objectives:
Seeking a talented and self-motivated automotive System Engineer located in Farmington Hills, MI. The ideal candidate will have experience in system engineering principles as applied to complex electronic controllers. The electronic controllers may integrate with other mechatronic components such as sensors and mechanical actuators. The ideal candidate will therefore also need to have a foundation of hardware knowledge and experience. Candidate will be working in a culture that fosters creativity and problem solving. This position will play a key role in a development team that creates advanced automotive electronic systems for the future.
Responsibilities:
- Develop product development plans with emphasis on managing timing, cost, complexity, and risk.
- Perform requirement sorting to identify pure software and pure hardware requirements and disseminate to appropriate teams.
- Conceptualize test fixtures and simulated loads to test, quantify, and verify product performance.
- Conceptualize tester system diagrams to support bench, environmental, and EMC testing.
- Interface with customers to clarify requirements and gain detailed knowledge about system operation.
- Construct, deliver and maintain system block diagrams and system DFMEAs.
- Develop wiring diagrams to illustrate external system interfaces.
- Develop concepts and specifications for environmental and EMC verification and validation testing.
- Maintain complete traceability between requirements, implementation, and test results.
- Lead effort and deliver hardware/software interface specifications.
- Lead effort and deliver functional control algorithms with on-line and off-line diagnostic methods.
- Lead effort in root cause analysis and issue resolution during all development phases.
- Work with functional safety teams to iterate the hardware and software requirements as necessary.
- Create and maintain user manual and overall application engineering report for product being developed.
- Participate in all hardware and software design reviews ensuring smooth implementation of requirements.
- Handling of audits such as A-Spice assessments.
- Comply with the designated ISO / TS 16949 responsibilities, Health & Safety (H&S) rules and practices.
- Perform any other assignments from time-to-time as management so directs.

- Provide the customer and company-wide perspective to detailed technical decisions.

- Experience in hardware and software system integration, such as integration of new sensors, actuators.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in industrial test and validation environment.
- Experience in data collection and statistical data analysis.
- Experience in requirements gathering and writing specifications as they relate to test functionality.
- English: Fluent in written and verbal communication.
- Must have hardware knowledge and experience with analog, digital, and power electronic circuits.
- Must be able to read and make electrical schematics, and engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of electric motors and associated control topologies and hardware configurations.
- Communication protocols (CAN, RS-232, TCP/IP, USB, SENT, Ethernet)
- Perform circuit analysis and simulation using LTSpice or similar SPICE based tools.
- Perform control system modeling and simulation using Matlab/Simulink.
Education: Possess a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in electrical or system engineering
Experience: 5 - 7 years with Bachelor's degree or 2 - 4 years with Master's degree
Job level determined by various factors such as organization size, responsibility, career stage, and capabilities.
Working Conditions:
Physical Demands: Sitting and standing for extended periods of time in an office and industrial lab environment. Capable of lifting equipment and apparatus repetitively weighing between 25lbs to 30lbs.
Travel: Readiness to travel domestically or international less than 5% annually.
Work Environment: Remote off-site work is possible, must be on-site as needed to support activities.
