Job Description:
Biomed Equipment Tech III

Under minimal supervision, provide expert level experience in the repair, calibration and maintenance of medical equipment, instrumentation and support systems used in the healthcare setting and strive for customer satisfaction through service excellence. This expertise will provide a significant fiscal benefit to the hospital by reducing current maintenance costs or service contracts. Capable of educating others including clinical staff related to the technical integration of the device/system.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
  • Has mastery of one or more devices or modalities (ie ventilators) and is seen widely as an expert on the topic
  • Knowledge of electronic theory, technology and test equipment
  • Knowledge of safety precautions when servicing high voltages and working with electro-mechanical equipment
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems and tools.
  • Ability to analyze electronic and electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to isolate, test and replace defective parts.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance inspections.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of repairs, calibration and tests.
  • Ability to run diagnostic programs.
  • Exhibits the ability to deal effectively inter-departmentally & with the public.
  • Knowledge of basic computer and networking theory.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES
  • Associates degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, electronics or successful completion of military courses in Biomedical Equipment Technology
  • Has completed courses in medical terminology and human anatomy and physiology
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
  • CBET, CRES or equivalent certification highly desirable
EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of five (5) years experience as a Biomedical Equipment Technician in a medical facility
  • Experience must involve the repair and maintenance of progressively more complex medical equipment to include life safety or high risk patient care and diagnostic equipment

  • Able to use proper body mechanics to lift supplies and equipment and push carts and dollies weighing up to 500 lbs.
  • Needs adequate color vision. Must wear protective clothing as required.
  • Must have sensory ability to distinguish hot, cold, range of temperatures, surfaces, fine motor skills, manual dexterity, and detect/distinguish odors.
  • May be required to travel to various locations.
  • Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
