Healthcare Nursing of Portsmouth - Title: Director of Nursing (Long Term Care)Employment Type: Full-time, ExemptReports To: Administrator/Executive DirectorPosition SummaryThe Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for directing, coordinating, and supervising all clinical and nursing services within the long-term care facility. This role provides strategic leadership, ensures regulatory compliance, promotes high-quality resident care, and fosters a professional, resident-centered nursing culture. The DON serves as a key executive member, partnering with facility leadership to align nursing operations with organizational goals. Key ResponsibilitiesClinical & Operational LeadershipProvide overall leadership and direction for the nursing department to guarantee delivery of safe, high-quality resident care.Develop, implement, review, and revise nursing policies, procedures, and standards of practice in accordance with federal/state regulations and best practices.Oversee individualized resident care planning, delivery, and evaluation in coordination with interdisciplinary teams. Staff ManagementRecruit, hire, orient, train, evaluate, mentor, and supervise nursing staff including RNs, LPNs/LVNs, and CNAs. Ensure appropriate staffing levels and competencies to meet resident care needs. Conduct regular performance evaluations and support professional development. Regulatory Compliance & Quality AssuranceEnsure compliance with CMS, state regulations, OBRA (if applicable), and facility policies. Lead Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) programs to enhance resident care outcomes. Prepare for and lead facility surveys, inspections, and required reporting. Communication & CollaborationAct as the primary liaison between nursing staff, residents, families, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Facilitate interdisciplinary care conferences and communicate changes/concerns promptly. Administrative FunctionsAssist with departmental budgeting, resource allocation, and cost-efficient operations.Maintain accurate nursing records and documentation in compliance with policies and confidentiality requirements (including HIPAA). QualificationsMinimum RequirementsCurrent Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred. Minimum 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience, with leadership/management experience in a long-term care setting.Preferred SkillsIn-depth knowledge of long-term care clinical standards, federal/state regulations, and quality programs.Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion. Competency in electronic health records and clinical documentation systems.
