This investment, coupled with a commitment to reduce administrative and regulatory barriers, is a multi-pronged strategy to tackle New York City’s complex housing crisis, by addressing homelessness and housing instability, promoting economic stability and mobility, increasing homeownership opportunities, improving health and safety, and increasing opportunities for equitable growth.Your Team:Within HPD’s Office of Legal Affairs (OLA’s), the Contracts and Real Estate Division (CRED) handles, among other things, all of HPD’s legal work related to real estate development, land-use planning, and asset management. The division’s primary responsibility is to provide legal services to the Agency’s affordable housing development programs, including by advising on real estate financings, sales and leases of City-owned property, and affordable housing regulatory agreements, and by closing the Agency’s real estate transactions. The division is also responsible for advising on planning, pre-development, and asset management matters and affordable housing development policy and program design and implementation.Your Impact:You will be part of a talented team of attorneys and legal support staff that provides important legal services to the public and the agency as it executes the City’s ambitious housing plan.Your Role:Your role will be to support a team of attorneys and various program staff at the agency on real estate and housing matters.Your Responsibilities:- Coordinate various activities related to real estate finance closings of affordable housing transactions, including administrative support internally and in conjunction with other City agencies/offices.- Perform work supporting the Deputy General Counsel, Associates General Counsel and staff attorneys in conjunction with the disposition of City-owned real property and the making of loans for new construction and rehabilitation.- Work with City, State, and Federal agencies to meet the department’s goals and objectives.- Analyze and resolve issues regarding real estate closings, mortgages, and tax liens.- Work with for-profit and not-for-profit organizations in the formation of housing development fund corporations.- Work on outstanding issues with private homeowners who have purchased real estate through various HPD programs.Required skills- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.- Ability to work productively and collaboratively as part of a team.- Ability to adapt and grow in response to feedback.- Openness to embracing new technologies.- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communications, and organizational skills.- Ability to demonstrate a client-centered approach to service delivery.- Ability to adapt to a fluid work environment with changing needs and priorities.COMMUNITY COORDINATOR - Minimum Qualifications1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or 2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.Public Service Loan ForgivenessAs a prospective employee of the City of New York, you may be eligible for federal loan forgiveness programs and state repayment assistance programs.
