Position Summary
The Utilities Engineer position provides engineering-related support, recommendations, and services to the Utilities Department in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services regarding energy products, power generation, production, consumption, and efficiencies for the entire campus, including steam, electrical, high-temperature hot water, and chilled water to ensure energy and cost efficiencies are being met.

Duties & Responsibilities

Provides engineeringanalyses and evaluations to identify and implement performance and efficiency modifications tothe operation of plant systems (steam, electrical, high temperature hot,and chilled water). Provides projectmanagement and oversight of energy projects and initiatives. Coordinate projectcompletion and execution with internal and external personnel andcustomers. Reviews and analyzesthe demand vs consumption of utility commodities for the entire campus, makesrecommendations regarding efficiency, cost savings, and better usage.Reviews all utility commodities produced (steam, electrical, hot, and chilled water) and their distribution throughout the campus to ensure efficiency.Tracks and validates utility usage metering data. Identifies,analyzes, and evaluates improvement and sustainability opportunities, alongwith the costs and the feasibility of related projects. Develops relationaction plans to capitalize on projects and determines whether grants areavailable to subsidize these activities. Performs relatedutilities engineering tasks associated with engineering projects, includingdelivery of accurate and thorough related designs that will comply withindustry standards, codes, specifications, and meet prudent engineeringpractices. Perform other related duties and participate in specialprojects as assigned.  Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Chemical engineering may be considered depending on the type of ChE. Five (5) years' experience in a utility plant or CHP environment. At least two (2) of those years' experience should be with a complex district energy facility environment with demonstrated success in energy saving projects. Two (2) years' experience working with utility incentive and rebate programs. Demonstrated knowledge in the production and consumption of power and energy generation, primarily in the areas of steam, electrical, hot, and chilled water is needed to perform the essential duties of the position outlined above. Knowledge of project management fundamentals. Knowledge of utility related federal regulatory and legal requirements and those in the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago. Honeywell Niagara software knowledge. Thorough understanding of prudent engineering principles and practices. Proficient with energy technologies and methodologies. Excellent communication skills and computer proficiency. Excellent problem solving and analytical skills. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.  Preferred Qualifications
Experience in power generation environment in the areas of steam, electrical, hot, and chilled water. Proven Engineering experience in a utilities or facilities environment or in related power generation.
