Minimum Experience 0 Summary The Federal Reserve Board (Board) provides students opportunities for career success. The Board’s Internship program is designed to provide valuable work experience for graduate students considering careers including, but not limited to, economics, finance and accounting, information systems, and data analysis. The Board believes that by combining academic endeavors with project-related work experience, qualified and capable college students can gain the practical knowledge need in a competitive global job market. Internships are paid positions with salaries commensurate with credit hours; internships may be in-person, remote or hybrid, depending on the needs of the team. Employment in the Board’s internship program is granted to U.S. citizens. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program at an accredited university and returning to continue studies after the internship. Interns receive a syllabus or research project plan outlining their projects and goals for the internship. Interns are assigned a supervisor or mentor to guide them through their internship, and regular check-in meetings with their manager to manage performance expectations and assist with learning goals. Interns have access to a wide range of training programs and events for professional development purposes. Position Requirements About the Team & Internship The RBOPS Technology Lab (TechLab) delivers expertise on payment innovations to Federal Reserve decision makers by researching and conducting hands-on experimentation with technologies broadly relevant to payments, clearance, and settlement. The year-round TechLab intern will support the team’s ongoing payment technologies research work. Potential projects would focus on topics such as blockchain technology, digital assets, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and data analysis. Specific projects will depend on the intern’s knowledge and academic areas of interest. The TechLab expects that the year-round intern will contribute written work and some code product (i.e., Python, R, or JavaScript) as part of their assignments. Expected Start Date: January 2025, continuing through at least the end of the summer. Expected Hours: 20 hours/week during school year, 40 hours/week during summer Qualifications/Requirements U.S. citizenship required Currently enrolled in a graduate degree program, or will be enrolled by the time the internship begins and graduating no earlier than August 2025. Seeking a degree in economics, mathematics, computer science, operations research, financial engineering, or other quantitative discipline Required Skills and Knowledge: Ability to conduct and produce high-level research, demos, and presentations. Familiarity with at least one programming language (Python, Java, R, C++/#, etc.) Experience with at least one operating system (Linux, Ubuntu, Windows, etc.) Analysis: Business, Communcation, Network, Programmer, Research Applications: MS Office Suite, SharePoint Programming: C#/++, Java/JQuery Preferred Skills: Experience with different machine learning algorithms or statistical methods. Previous experience with AWS products (EC2, CodeCommit, etc.) and blockchain networks (Ethereum, Solana, Hyperledger, etc.)  Must be committed to working a 40-hour work week for 10-12 weeks during summer 2025 Competencies/Learning Objectives: Develop expertise in emerging technologies related to payment systems and financial services. Gain a working knowledge of different technical and statistical methods commonly used in both current and future payment systems. Develop proficiency in one or more programming languages or operating systems.  Qualifications/Requirements U.S. citizenship required Currently enrolled in a graduate degree program, or will be enrolled by the time the internship begins and graduating no earlier than August 2025.
