The Pacifica Police Department is responsible for all functions related to law enforcement and crime prevention and is made up of several divisions that carry out specialized duties to help the department perform as a cohesive whole. Those divisions are Field Services, Investigations, Communications and Records. The City of Pacifica Police Officers operate at the heart of the community, ensuring the safety of those who work, live, and visit the City. Staff includes thirty-seven (37) full-time positions and (4) part-time support positions. Together, they come together to carry out the Police Department mission …"to protect and serve the members of our community with the highest level of commitment, ethics and professionalism.” THE OPPORTUNITY Under general supervision, Police Officers will patrol an assigned beat, protect life and property, prevent crime, maintain order, enforce laws, ordinances, and constitutional mandates, perform investigative work in detection of crime, perform public service tasks, and work varying hours and shifts. We invite you to explore this opportunity with us Basic Examples of Duties Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Patrols an assigned area of the City by car, foot or as designated by the Police Chief, divisional commander or line supervisor.Maintains law and order, responds to emergencies as directed by radio and telephone.Investigates unusual or suspicious conditions, directs traffic, investigates traffic accidents, administers first aid, gives assistance to the injured.Makes arrests, serves subpoenas and warrants, guards prisoners, conducts interviews, notes and report unsafe conditions, prepares evidence and appears in court, searches for stolen property and lost persons.Gives information to the public regarding laws, ordinances, traffic safety, directions and available public services, issues citations to traffic violators, writes reports of daily activities and action taken.Investigates vice conditions, analyzes facts, clues and evidence and makes investigations to determine law violators and their whereabouts.Maintains effective working relationships with other law enforcement agencies, employees and the public.Operates the radio and other communication equipment, protects the life, property, public order and constitutional rights of all citizens.Adheres to the California Peace Officers Standards and Training Code of Ethics.Works varying hours and days of the week.May take on additional duties as requested, such as field training officer or instructor in one or more areas including, but not limited to firearms, defensive tactics, hostage negotiations and canine handling.
