About the Summer Internship ProgramThe Summer Internship Program provides undergraduate and graduate students and beginning professionals with practical experience in a specific area of museum work at The Museum of Modern Art. Interns participate in weekly professional development activities designed to increase understanding of the Museum’s various collections, exhibitions, and departments. The Museum hosts approximately 25 interns in various departments across our institution. Participants may arrange for academic credit through their school, but it is not a requirement. MoMA Summer 2026 internships require a commitment of four days per week. The schedule is Monday-Thursday, 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. One must have a minimum of two years of college completed (or equivalent) by June 2026 in order to apply. All summer intern applications are due by Sunday, March 1st by 11:59 PM EST. Duration: June 8—August 13; Ten Weeks Application Deadline: March 1, 2026 Decision Notification: April 20, 2026 Stipend: $6,160 Department Projects & Tasks The Summer 2026 intern for MoMA Teen Programs will focus on supporting the planning, administration, and facilitation for In the Making, MoMA’s free summer art program for New York City high school students ages 15 through 18, and MoMA Teens annual celebration. The intern would also support Summer Studio, a program that offers gallery tours and artmaking workshops to D75. The intern tasks would provide support in the following areas of work: Assist in managing the storage, inventory and documentation of student artwork Photo documentation of events and classes Maintain attendance for events File and document student forms, applications and curricula Assist in maintaining online social media presence during, before and after events Provide on-site logistical support during classes, trips and events Assist in preparing art materials for events Assist in collecting participant surveys and data Assist on gallery tours with group management and material management Support Assistant Educator and Petrie Fellow in curating, designing and logistics of In the Making student art exhibition The Summer Intern will gain hands-on experience in planning, developing, and implementing an art studio program designed to empower youth through artistic processes. By assisting in fostering creativity and self-expression among youth by engaging them in meaningful art studio workshops and experiences, the intern will empower youth through artistic processes. The intern will be provided with practical experience in planning, development, and implementation of educational programs, while putting into practice partnership building across Learning and Engagement, external partners, and within the MoMA Teens and Young Learners team. Department Skillset Requirements Candidates with a genuine interest in visual arts and a commitment to supporting the growth and creativity of teens, with experience or strong interest in working with youth ages 14-19. Strong interpersonal skills to engage and communicate effectively with teens and diverse audiences. Exceptional time-management and personal organization skills. Proactive communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience/strong interest in teaching groups, leading tours, and public speaking. Experience in or proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, CRM tools, calendar management, and project management software. Familiarity with various art mediums and techniques. Basic knowledge of art history and contemporary art practices. Proficiency in languages other than English, in particular, Spanish or Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), highly preferred.
