Lead Residential Advisor

Overview Responsible for assigned personnel in the day to day supervision, counseling, health and welfare of students residing in the dormitory. Plans and manages a well-balanced residential life program for students who reside in the dormitory on a 24/7 basis. Performs daily inspections of dorm housekeeping and safety of facilities and oversees care of students provided by Residential Assistants. Responsible for reporting to the Dorm Administrator the planning and supervising the operations of residential life programs, including the health, security and safety of residents. QualificationsEDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTBachelor's degree from 4-year college or university in Child Development, Education, Behavioral Sciences, Psychology, and cultural studies or related field; no substitutions.EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTAn additional two years of residential life/dormitory homeliving related work.COMPUTER SKILLSAn individual should have knowledge of Database software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSMust possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Must be certified in CPR and first aid.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIESKnowledge of community health and social agencies and programs. Knowledge of recreational activities available in residential facilities. Knowledge of resources, treatment facilities and educational programs available. Skill in coordinating the work of others. Skill in preparing detailed reports. Skill in maintaining discipline in a residential setting. Skill in establishing rapport with residential population. Ability to communicate effectively. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. Supervises, monitors, and assists staff in carrying out the daily schedules and routines according to school policy to ensure the students are prompt in attending class. Coordinates with dorm administration on discipline decisions for students and recommends or initiates other measures to control behavior. Oversees schedules and supervises housekeeping activities of other workers in assigned section of dormitory and provides daily inspections. Provides reports to dorm administrator. Provides training to staff as required on home living issues for personal development of students. Oversees student files to ensure completeness for medical, social, health and behavioral well-being of student residents. Responsible for accounting daily to dorm administration for the safety, health and well-being of student residents. Acts as a positive role model for students and supervises staff professional conduct in caring, monitoring and supervising students. Promotes and uses positive social skills and ensures that staff conduct their duties using positive social skills. Coordinates student development and life-skills training and activities and reports to Dorm administrator. Makes duty assignments to students as required. Supervises staff to ensure that the tasks are completed in a timely and appropriate manner. Counsels students as needed and refers students to Dorm Administration for final discipline decisions. Other duties may be assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESDirectly supervises 5-10 employees in the assigned area. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
