System Administrator

Description Background Information:Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), provider of cutting-edge cloud-based integration, automated testing and data analysis for complex, mission-critical systems in the US Department of Defense (DOD), is seeking a System Administrator to be based in our Arlington, VA office. Leveraging advanced software automation, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and AI-driven capabilities, IDT accelerates capability development, enhances operational readiness, and reduces lifecycle costs for the Department of Defense. The company is dedicated to transforming defense systems through innovation, efficiency, and mission-critical results.  Overview:IDT is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Systems Administrator with 5+ years of experience to manage, maintain, and secure our critical virtual infrastructure, physical and Linux/Windows environment. The ideal candidate has a deep technical background in virtualization/physical best practices, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a proven ability to maintain highly available, secure, and performant systems.All applicants must currently possess an active U.S. Security Clearance. Responsibilities Include: VMware Infrastructure Management: Design, install, configure, and maintain VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts and vCenter Server.System Maintenance: Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools.Security & Compliance: Ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability, security, and performance; implement and maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, processes, and infrastructure maps.Collaboration: Work closely with other IT staff and business units to understand needs and implement solutions that meet organizational objectives.Linux System Administration: Install, configure, secure, and maintain Linux operating systems (Red Hat) in both virtual and physical environments.Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain automation scripts (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerCLI, Ansible Playbook) to streamline routine administrative tasks, deployments, and reporting.Troubleshooting: Provide Tier 3/4 support to quickly diagnose and resolve complex system and virtual/physical system performance issues, system configuration problems, and outages. Minimum Required Qualifications:5+ years of hands-on experience in Systems Administration, with a strong focus on virtualization and Linux An Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent full-time professional experience Security + CE certification Required skills:Experience in Linux System Administration (preferably Red Hat), including YUM/DNF, package management, user access control, SELinux.Experience administering Windows environments, including patching, system maintenance, and OS updates across Windows 10/11.Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V).Familiarity with network management, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and firewalls.Proficiency with backup and disaster recovery solutions.Solid experience with PowerShell or Bash scripting for automation.Excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Preferred skills:Certification: VMware Certified Professional (VCP) Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).NIST 800-53 Security Control ExperienceDISA STIGsExperience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus. Competencies:Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.Strong verbal and written communication skills for documentation and collaboration with technical and non-technical staff.Proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement and learning new technologies.Pay Range*: $114,000 - $184,000 or $135,000 - $231,000 This amount may not be reflective of actual compensation that may be earned as pay is dependent on a candidate’s experience, skills, and education. The posted range does not include bonuses, commissions, tips, or other benefits. IDT is often looking to place multiple candidates at various levels.
