POSITION PURPOSE

The University of Washington's Information School is seeking a Program Manager for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access, and Sovereignty (IDEAS) to support and actively collaborate with the Associate Dean of IDEAS to create and execute the IDEAS vision for the iSchool. The IDEAS Program Manager (PM) reports to the Associate Dean of IDEAS with the expectation of managing up to two staff members as the office of IDEAS grows. The program manager is responsible for engaging and collaborating with iSchool administration and leadership as well as external stakeholders at the State of Washington and beyond to create and execute initiatives and programs that advance the schools IDEAS goals in recruitment and retention, education, research, and fostering an inclusive, accessible working environment for students, staff and faculty as described in the UW Diversity Blueprint.

The IDEAS Program Manager engages faculty, staff, and students in advancing the goals of inclusion, diversity, equity, access, and sovereignty as they relate to the educational and research goals of the school. The IDEAS PM is a key advisor to iSchool leadership, faculty, and staff, providing guidance, recommendations and training as needed, in matters related to equity, inclusion, and diversity of students, staff, and faculty. Working with the Associate Dean for IDEAS and other iSchool leaders, the IDEAS Program Manager supports and guides the development and implementation of plans, programs, and activities that educate and motivate the iSchool community to hold pluralism and inclusion as core values and foster a climate that respects diversity and advances social justice.

At the iSchool, we create an environment that fosters appreciation, mutual respect, and engagement among and between members of the iSchool, UW community, and beyond, with special attention to the needs of people from historically marginalized communities. We envision a university in which all students, faculty and staff participate fully and meaningfully in campus life without being subjected to discrimination, bias or microaggressions. In line with the iSchool's vision for leadership, there is an expectation that the person in this position will contribute meaningfully by bringing new ideas and identifying opportunities for improvement whenever possible and lead by taking actions that exemplify the iSchool's core values. This leadership may be expressed in diverse ways, reflecting the variety of styles and cultures that are represented by iSchool faculty and staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy, Programming, and Planning:

•Serve as the administrative lead for the Office of the Associate Dean for IDEAS, managing multiple operational areas with broad scopes and diverse stakeholders.

•Collaborate with the Associate Dean to develop, execute, and evaluate strategies and programs for advancing the iSchool's IDEAS goals.

•Collaborate with the Associate Dean to prepare and manage the IDEAS budget

•Collaborate with other programs and divisions within the school to review and enhance policies, ensuring alignment with DEI goals.

•Propose and advocate for new policies that support a diverse and inclusive academic environment.

•Work closely with academic leadership, faculty, staff, and student organizations to foster a collaborative approach to DEI initiative, performance metrics, and other programmatic and evaluations and policies.

•Foster partnerships with external organizations and experts to bring valuable perspectives and resources.

•Develop and conduct training programs to raise awareness and promote cultural competency tailored for audiences and stakeholders within the iSchool.

•Coordinate, develop, review, recommend, and evaluate materials that support iSchool faculty, staff and/or students in advancement of IDEAS goals.

Research, Assessment, and Evaluation:

•Create assessment tools to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate the iSchool in accordance with diversity standards and goals within the iSchool and in relationship to the UW diversity blueprint.

•Collect, analyze, and report on diversity metrics to measure the impact of DEI programs.

•Review current practices and policies, assessing and analyzing the extent to which they support or hinder the iSchool's IDEAS goals.

•Learn from, inform, and coordinate with other IDEAS efforts across campus and beyond.

Collaboration and Communication:

•Provide regular updates to leadership on progress, challenges, and opportunities related to DEI initiatives.

•Develop and implement communication strategies to inform the iSchool community (students, staff, and faculty) about IDEAS.

•Connect with other DEI efforts across campus and beyond to research, identify, and implement best practices and coordinate IDEAS activities.

•Prepare and present reports based upon the work of the IDEAS at the school, inclusive of diverse working groups, committees, and events.

Administrative Assistance and Other Duties:

•Administrative assistance for coordinating activities and meetings as they relate to the above.

•Attend meetings and participate in iSchool and University of Washington committees, working groups, events and activities as needed.

•Performing other related duties based on priorities as assigned.

•Engaging in professional development activities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

•Bachelor's degree in an area relevant to the role such as Diversity and Inclusion, Social Sciences, Education, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

•Minimum of two years of experience in fields related to DEI education.

•Minimum of two years of relevant DEI experience building relationships with diverse communities and/or managing DEI program(s).

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

•Experience in establishing and maintaining cooperative and collaborative working relationships with students, faculty, and staff within higher education.

•Depth of knowledge and understanding of DEI issues as they relate to student life and academic success and a safe and welcoming environment for staff and faculty.

•Flexibility in working within a dynamic environment and responsive to changing priorities.

•Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local equal employment opportunity laws and regulations.

•Experience in creating assessment tools and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate diversity metrics and the impact of DEI programs.

•Ability to collect, analyze, and report on diversity metrics to measure the impact of DEI programs.

•Demonstrated ability to work with and across diverse communities, prioritizing safe spaces and confidentiality.

•Flexibility to work both independently and collaboratively as a team.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

•Substantial experience with DEI strategy and planning.

•Lived experiences that have led to a deep understanding and appreciation for inclusion, diversity, equity, access, and sovereignty especially within academic/educational contexts.
