The French Market was first founded in 1791 on the banks of the Mississippi River and has remained a popular French Quarter destination ever since. Though the market has been built and rebuilt many times, significant sections include the Butchers’ Market, now home to the famous Café du Monde; the Bazaar Market, built by Joseph Abeilard, one of our nation’s first African-American architects; and the Cuisine Market, now home to Marché. All of the buildings run alongside Dutch Alley, a statue-lined pedestrian plaza also available for event rentals.Before opening Marché, the building was carefully renovated to bring out its historic French Quarter charms. We hand-applied old-world Venetian plaster and restored the closed, unused balconies to their original open-air beauty. Marché is sure to sparkle during your next wedding or special event.
