Instructor, Power Plant Engineering

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.Manage the classroom/laboratory.Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.Manage equipment, supplies and materials.Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.Attend departmental and institutional meetings.Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.Support student organizations and activities.Develop relationships with business and industry.Complete program evaluation and follow-up.Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:Requires a Technical Diploma, or higher, in Power Plant Engineering or a related field which includes Stationary Engineering and/or Industrial Maintenance with a minimum of at least five (5) years or equivalent (10,000 hours) of relevant work experience as a Stationary Engineer, Boiler Operators, or in Industrial Maintenance.ORHigh School diploma AND an American Society of Power Engineer (ASOPE) Facility Operating Second Class License or higher with a minimum of at least seven (7) years or equivalent (14,000 hours) of relevant work experience as a Stationary Engineer, Boiler Operators, or in Industrial Maintenance.In addition, one of the following must be met:At least two (2) years of the relevant experience must have occurred in the last five years.ORAt least two (2) of the relevant experience has been teaching Stationary Engineering or Boiler Operator coursework at a post-secondary level in the last five years.REQUIRED Licensure Requirement:ASOPE or higher with both the High School and/or Technical DiplomaMust embrace and demonstrate Standards of Teaching Excellence and the MATC Career Essentials in development and delivery of instruction.Standards of Teaching Excellence:Understanding Students and Fostering Student SuccessClassroom ManagementPlanning/OrganizationContent Mastery and CurrencyTeaching MethodologyAssessment of Student LearningProfessional ContributionsEssential Technology:Email - Experience with an Email system (Gmail, Outlook)Telephone - Experience with a voice mail systemComputer - Experience with Microsoft Office Suite/GoogleEssential Supportive Technology:Experience with or willingness to learn the following supportive technologies:Online Information Management Systems - Experience with Self-Service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rostersBlackboard Ultra - Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course - management systemsTechnology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technologyEmerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (eg. social networking applications)
