Who We AreThe Comparative Medicine Program (CMP) enhances excellence in research and teaching at Texas A&M through high quality animal care. We provide a variety of services to researchers at the university through standard and specialized facilities. These services include the procurement of animals and animal husbandry supplies, provision of veterinary care, use of CMP surgical facilities, a polyclonal antibody production service, technical support services, and animal use training services.What We Want:The Comparative Medicine Program Research Animal Technicians I, II, III, under direction, is responsible for: husbandry duties for laboratory animals; sanitation of assigned animal holding rooms; and maintenance of assigned support areas.What you need to knowCompensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.A cover letter and resume are strongly recommended.QualificationsWe are actively recruiting for a level I, II, and III Comparative Medicine Research Animal Technicians.Minimum Requirements for a Research Animal Technician I:High School diploma or equivalency, or any equivalent combination of education and experience and six months of related experience in laboratory animal careSuccessful completion of a formal Laboratory Animal Science Course may substitute for three months of laboratory animal care experienceMinimum Requirements for a Research Animal Technician II:High School diploma or equivalency, or any equivalent combination of education and experience and one year of related experience in laboratory animal careSuccessful completion of a formal Laboratory Animal Science Course may substitute for three months of laboratory animal care experienceMinimum Requirements for a Research Animal Technician III:High School diploma or equivalency, or any equivalent combination of education and experience and two years of related experience in laboratory animal careSuccessful completion of a formal Laboratory Animal Science Course may substitute for three months of laboratory animal care experienceWhile not required, the well-qualified level III candidates would possess the following:Successful completion of any CMP Laboratory Animal Science Course or successful completion within the first year in positionAmerican Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certificationOther Requirements or Factors:Must be able to lift or move heavy objects and move/push/pull carts on weight bearing wheels.May need to carry heavy loads.Must be able to tolerate a significant amount of standing, bending, stretching, walking, and/or moving.Must not be allergic to animals, latex, waste products, or bedding.Persons in this position are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc. and are therefore required to report to work and remain on duty unless/until relieved by the direct supervisor.Alternate shifts are available for work outside of normal business hours, such as a Tuesday through Saturday shift or a Sunday through Thursday shift.Must work weekends and holidays as required on a shared basis.Must have a Class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
