For information about ABM’s benefits, visit ABM Employee Benefits | Staff & Management Hours: On call position, hours will vary.Duties & Responsibilities The DFLSD must possess an F-89 or Z-89 FDNY certificate of Fitness. The DFLSD must possess a valid Port Authority SIDA badge. The DFLSD must always be present on site during their scheduled work shift. The DFLSD must maintain and monitor the fire alarm system and respond to alarm activations. The DFLSD must interact with the PAPD or FDNY or Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) whenever they enter the building for alarms or inspections. In the event of a fire, or other emergency event, the DFLSD must: Report to the Fire Command Center or designated alternative location. Utilize the notification systems (paging, fire alarm panel, etc.) when required as part of an emergency response. Coordinate the fire brigade or use of employees who have knowledge or skill relevant to an emergency response. Communicate during emergencies with LGP Operations via handheld radio and the PAPD, ARFF at building 137. Implement such fire safety and/or non-fire emergency actions as warranted by the circumstances, in accordance with the provisions of the Fire Safety Plan, the Fire Code, the Fire Rules and Port Authority Regulations Direct the evacuation or other actions necessary to provide for the safety of occupants as provided for in the Fire Safety Plan The DFLSD is responsible for communicating all information and directions to building occupants in the event of fire and non-fire emergency by making clear and audible public address announcements. Notify arriving emergency response personnel of the nature of the emergency and the response thereto. Comply with the directions of the emergency response personnel and/or other lawful authorities. Assist all emergency service personnel that respond and provide information to the PAPD / fire marshal or the FDNY or other responders concerning the location of the fire, evacuation, or movement of occupants from and to locations. Direct and assist emergency responders in the operation of the Fire Command Center and all building systems. Direct and coordinate the actions to be taken in response to a fire emergency, (shelter in place, in-building relocation, partial or full evacuation) in the terminal until the arrival of the PAPD Incident Commander Implement provisions of the Fire Safety and Evacuation Plan as needed. Training & Inspections Daily checks - Lamp test, sign logbook, inspect panel for troubles, supervisory and previous alarms. Conduct rounds of stairwells - Log any deficiencies and follow up on repairs or remedies by appropriate vendors or team members. Conduct rounds of FACP rooms to ensure they are clear of any non-related material. Conduct rounds of deluge valve rooms to ensure pressures are within range. Ensure monthly pump tests are conducted and log results. Conduct monthly test of fireman’s elevator service/ recall and log results. Conduct monthly checks of all fire extinguishers and sign tags. Tags must be replaced, and extinguishers must be inspected at least once per year by licensed contractor. Ensure two (2) quarterly, one (1) semi-annual and one (1) test of dry, wet and deluge system water flows and tamper switches are conducted by a licensed contractor according to code. Ensure fire alarm systems (pull stations, smoke detectors, duct smoke detectors, heat detectors, beam detectors, water flows, tamper switches, speakers and strobes, fan shutdown and elevator recall, door release, fire smoke dampers, and purge systems) are tested by a licensed contractor at least once per year. Assist the FLSD in training building fire brigade teams according to FS/EAP Plan.
