The company, formed in 2020 through the combination of Raytheon Company and the United Technologies Corporation aerospace businesses, is headquartered in Arlington, VA.Position Overview:This position is part of the Enterprise Services – Data & AI organization within RTX Corporate, supporting the company’s mission to develop and scale AI capabilities responsibly and securely across the enterprise.The Applied AI Engineer designs and builds AI-enabled applications that enhance productivity and decision-making across RTX. This hands-on role focuses on developing reusable components, autonomous workflows, and multi-agent patterns that demonstrate measurable business value from modern AI technologies.What You Will Do:Build and deploy AI applications that leverage large language models (LLMs) and agentic reasoning frameworks to perform complex, multi-step tasks.Design and implement context-aware orchestration, tool-use, and memory mechanisms that allow AI systems to operate autonomously within defined boundaries.Collaborate with business stakeholders to prototype AI copilots and digital assistants that augment human workflows in engineering, sustainment, and operations.Develop reusable SDKs, documentation, and internal demos to accelerate adoption of AI capabilities.Partner with platform and MLOps teams to ensure solutions are secure, scalable, and governed.Qualifications You Must Have:Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experiencePython & TypeScript for AI apps; LLM frameworks (LangChain, AutoGen, Semantic Kernel)Agentic AI concepts; vector search (Pinecone, FAISS, Azure AI Search)Cloud AI services & APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure AI, Bedrock)Qualifications We Prefer:Hands-on experience building and deploying agents for business use cases (e.g., workflow orchestration, data transformation or analysis, multi-agent system)Understanding of prompt engineering, contextual retrieval, and self-reflective agent design.Familiarity with enterprise integration patterns and secure API development.Strong communication skills and ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.Work LocationThis is a hybrid role, eligible candidates must reside within commuting distance from Farmington, CT, additional locations will be considered MA, TX, IA, CAWhat We Offer: Whether you’re just starting out on your career journey or are an experienced professional, we offer a robust total rewards package with compensation; healthcare, wellness, retirement and work/life benefits; career development and recognition programs. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
